Before folks could afford a car with A/C, they had these blowers.

I did not have a blower. I just opened the window and side vent.
Two windows down and forty miles an hour.

Used to see those around once in awhile, probably hard to scare one up now.
I believe the one we had was a swamp cooler. it had a water tank?

What is that little antenna looking in front of the red car? (by the Head Light)

That antenna was a side marker for parking guidance.
Yup, used to call it our 460 Air conditioner. Open four windows and go 60 miles an hour. But that was when we had flywindows. Small seperate windows at the front of the front seat windows. You could open them past 90 degrees and they would scoop wind into the car.
Many older cars had floor vents you could manually open. Get a big block of ice and put it in front of the passenger seat. Close the windows and open the floor vents. Instant cooling!
Yes, I've seen them before, but my poor family could never afford one. Instead, we drove around all summer with the windows closed so people would think we had air conditioning.
I saw a few of those in my time.

460 was for the rich folks. Plain folks only had a 240. :)
I still like to drive with my windows open, even with the AC blowing. I get the impression that those tubes in the photo used a Bernoulli effect to suck out air - was there actually a motorized blower?
Marks the front fender. Some had a light in them! How do you say redneck?

Never saw before - and sure a great idea! I rarely use my air. I prefer fresh air circulation. This would be a big step up!
