p.11 The California wren is especially good, JJ. Sweet little bird and very nice bokeh

Nice ones Sue. You can always ask for it back. But won't fit the Z6. I love mine!!

Thanks! I don't think Liam would appreciate me being an Indian giver! The lens does work on the Z6 as it will automatically go into DX mode but it loses too many MPs. BTW - Liam is getting my Tamron 35-150 for Christmas - it's another favorite lens but was replaced by a Z 24-200 as I'm gradually transitioning to the native Z lenses to get away from having to use an FTZ adapter. Gotta admit that it hurts to part with the 35-150 but Liam will be thrilled and after all, it will still be in the family!

Cudo's to all the contributors for some very stunning images,
and a special "shout out" to our most gracious hostess, Pat!

I'm just not getting out as much as I'd like, so again, nothing
new here...but I think they're pretty good examples of bokeh.

The less busy the background, and the more out of focus it is,
the better.

I hope you enjoy.
Tim

Thanks for the much needed color on such a dreary day!

Wonderful subject Pat.
I have so many flower and bird examples of bokeh, but had a heck of a time finding anything else! Will have to conscientiously search something out tomorrow.

What a lovely, varied set!

Bokeh aside, this is a really good portrait - sharp in the face with wonderfully contrasting colors - you definitely nailed it!

Thanks for your tips Pat, and your comments on submissions are instructive too. Your sharing is much appreciated. I came across another set of potted directions on a different board:

"Use lowest possible ISO, widest possible aperture, longest possible focal length, and greatest possible distance from focus point to objects in the background . . . ." Perhaps we should add the seemingly obvious don't focus at infinity ;-)

Most close-ups inevitably display bokeh unless you are aiming for maximum DoF. They seem to be the ones in which bokeh is most commonly recognised and admired. But it can also be achieved where distance from focus point to objects in the background is measured even in miles - like my cheetahs, Pentax 1a, Kodachrome 60, 200mm lens, not sure about the rest (back in the old light meter days). Here's where "longest possible distance" to background really comes into play. This suggests to me that there is a vast range of opportunities. But how often do you consider appearance and composition of bokeh when clicking the do-fa?

I have never consciously tried for bokeh, so all my submissions are "incidentals". But perhaps now I can try

That second bird shot is amazing...What is it's name and where does it hang out?

Otherwise, all photos are very interesting and nice!

Thank you! I wasn’t out to shoot the dog that day but there he was so I pointed the camera at him. Turned out be the best shot of the outing

Thank you Judy. This is a Carmine-breasted Bee-eater, hangs out in Kenya (and elsewhere?). I think I took this one at my parents' house in Mombasa.
