Post Processing FYI

Wanting to see what the difference was when PP with Capture One 20 versus Luminar. First original photo was processed with C1 and again with Luminar. In the C1 version I had to use several layers to get the desired results (and not happy with the forest results in C1 (probably my technical ability)). In the Luminar version I used AI for sky and landscape (which was easier) with some dodge and burn on the water (no layers). Personally, I think that I got better results with Luminar. Last original photo was done with C1 first, and again with Luminar (cropped and used dodge and burn only in both edits) and is included as a different perspective. Comments pro and/or con will be appreciated, and used in future endeavors.

I like the tones and colors in the Luminar, but it seems the squirrel is just laid on top of the background and not blended into the background is.
The lake photo I really like the sky in the C1 better than Luminar. Which makes me take a look (no pun intended) at my fondness of Luminar.
My eyesight is less than it use to be so don’t take my word for it.

Thanks. Not sure what you mean about blending the squirrel into the background.

Just focusing on the landscape photo, the original looks like the histogram would be pushed more to the right than the C1 pp & might only need a little dehaze or clarity to bring it closer to the luminar pp photo. If you look at the Luminar pp photo it is just a little more to the right (histogram) than the original & maybe some dehaze & or clarity applied. That is just what it appears to me looking at the photos on my monitor. Nice photo.

To my eyes, the Capture 1 image is better in both cases. In the landscape, it appears to be crisper than the Luminar one. For the squirrel image, the colours in the Luminar image look off - a little too saturated perhaps. The Capture 1 squirrel colour is more pleasing.

The most important to have fixed in the lake/mountain scene would be to get the horizon level.

That was the first thing that caught my eye as well.

As far as the rest of the image - I like the Luminar landscape and the Capture One squirrel. The Capture One landscape is too dark with no detail in the shadows. The Luminar squirrel looks harsh and unnatural.

Thanks Hoggers. Your comments are appreciated, and give me insight as to what I have to be aware of in future PP endeavors. Again a BIG Thank You.

I have never used C1 but use Luminar 4 fairly often for background replacement. What I look for is a "seamless replacement". I do almost all my processing in LR and very seldom move any sliders in Luminar. In this case I can see no real difference other than color intensites.

Morning, to my eye the C1 on both seems slightly more refined. Don’t quite understand the squirrel/background comment.

For the landscape, Capture 1 is much better but Luminar brought out the details in the trees. All need to be leveled.
