I take pictures because I like seeing what shows up when I download them.I like seeing if what I saw or thought I saw was a good photo or not and like a couple of other people said earlier to capture a moment in time

Ipod on, music playing, immersed in my surroundings and camera in hand. The world could blow up as i am peace my environment at that moment in time.

it was sex, photography, archery, marriage and guns,in that order. so i picked all of the above.been happy ever since. sex, marriage, and archery are out for now,so guns and cameras will have to do til something else comes along.

Marriage and guns could be a dangerous combination - for both parties. My wife has said many times that it's good we don't have any guns in the house. :D

it was ok at my house, as soon as i knew she was a keeper i bought her ,her own bow and gun.

Since I'm not a photographer I'm left with my eye for beauty

and to be able to express that with a camera is bonus.

So I see myself as recording moments in time that are always in a state of decay, movement and change .

I've attached 3 photos to make my point...thomas

1929 yacht moored on the Inner Harbor (no longer here)
peacock posing for me (long gone)
Great Blue Heron (gone somewhere)

I'm blessed to observe this beauty and be able to record it. what luck...how rewarding .Thank-you older used Olympus C 8080 camera

If I wasn't ready to record this beauty what a loss that would be for their would be no recorded history of this
beautiful moments-in-time...

How sad it would be to have missed the opportunity to

record this beauty. Sad for me (5 of my favorites)

I just love the first one ... "just my cup of tea"... Any chance that you could post again but "tick" the box so that we/I could open it up larger?

I am part of the Photographic Movement--and there is one--to try to artistically "paint" my point of view of the world around me. I know this sounds cheesie. There is a pleasure in my heart and soul when I photograph a Hospice Patient & their family, when I record a "get-to-gether", a portrait, or the Architectural design fulfilled as a constructed ediface. I am going to be recording the birth of my Grandson in December and will be photographing him daily through his first year--I"m going to be the Nanny-Grandpa... Photographers can image the joy... without thinking that this is all Cheesie... Ladies and Gentlemen of the Jury... isn't there a satisfaction that only painters, or woodworkers could/would feel...and we now do as well, as Photographers?

The moment in time when the photograph is taken will never happen again. The light, the picture, the mood are once in a lifetime. Even if 20,000 people take the same photo it will not be the same because of time.

In your own words why do you take photographs?

The answer for me was simple, I was looking for an artistic way to create memories of my world. It has given me the excuse to travel to places I may not have seen, enjoy people with a similar interest and just have fun in my retirement without investing a fortune. Granted I spend a fortune on travel and equipment but once I have the equipment I need to get my money's worth and amortize it as if it was a capital investment I would have made if I was still in business. It's great fun, I can fail and still be happy, just try again.

Before I answer, I have a question. If I say, "Because I want to" am I going to get my head handed to me on a plate like the last time this question was asked?

It's my therapy. Why pay thousands to a psychiatrist when I can pay thousands for camera equipment.
