What camera and equipment do the present Street photographers use?
Good question. Today it is not like it was in the past when a 35 mm lens was used with a rangefinder camera. Regarding street photography any camera can do the job although the 35 mm camera, film or dSLR seem to lead the way.
I am no expert nor I make any claims of been a great street photographer. As a matter of fact, it is street photography the least use I have for my cameras but I notice what people photographing in the streets use. Sometimes it is a normal lens, sometimes a short tele, it all depends on the subject.
I have used teles for street photography successfully.
If you have a camera with a 35 mm lens you are on the way to good images IF you learn how to shoot at the "decisive moment."

The camera they have with them. More than likely it can be used for any venue.
Living out in the country, I don’t get much chance to do street photography, but when I do I use either a short zoom or my phone. It seems that no one pays any attention to someone with a phone.

Thank you everyone
For several many years I used the Kit 18-55 that came with my Canon XTi Rebel now my "walk around" lens is a Tamron 18-200 w/VR on a Canon T3i Rebel- so very versatile.

"It seems that no one pays any attention to someone with a phone." That is true and weird. I guess maybe most people think others are doing selfies. But yea, when I go out with my phone no one cares. When I go out with my DSLR and 28-300 Canon lens people freak out. ;-)
I like to shoot fairly close. I use an old Canon T2i with a 24mm ef-s pancake lens and a wrist strap.
