Anyone can justify in their own mind whether the mask works or not. I do believe it helps some because I've sneezed in my mask and it didn't all go out. However, my main point is, I and many people like me, have a suppressed immune system and if you sneeze on me it could eventually result in my demise and I choose to live as long as I can. So I say thank you to those who care enough about their fellow human beings to chose not to spread their germs.

The mask isn't necessarily for your protection. It's intended purpose is to protect others from you. Perhaps, if you read the material in the post, you might get that.

You are absolutely correct! So in my thoughts, that is a great barometer of how much other people mean to the "maskless."

The Danish study is the only true one with a control group and masks did not work. If they did states that have had mask mandates would have fewer cases in Wisconsin since the mandate the numbers went up.

Danish study? Never heard of it. Perhaps it was fake news?

"We found the most important measure for reducing the risk of exposure to COVID-19 is to wear a mask," says Matthew Callstrom, M.D., Ph.D., chair of the department of radiology at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. "We found that both disposable paper medical masks and two-layer cloth masks were effective in reducing droplet transmission and we did not find a difference between mask types in terms of how well they blocked aerosol particles emitted by the wearer."

I don't think wearing a mask to protect yourself is selfish. It still protects others. I wear one to protect myself AND others. It's the people who refuse to wear a mask who are selfish and don't care about others.

Perhaps I should have elaborated a bit. It is not selfish to wear a mask to protect yourself. However most of the thrust of this thread is that because a few tests have indicated that masks provide little protection against incoming virus people are saying they are not going to bother wearing a mask since it doesn't help. THAT is selfish.
If they added a statement pointing out how they do protect others much better so they will wear a mask because of THIS then that is good. All to do with personal motives.

Hey mate. Just because YOU have never heard of it DOES NOT make it incorrect. The only thing that can be extracted from your statement 'that I have never heard of it' is that you are not widely read, and basically couldn't really care enough to find out. If you did care you would make more effort to find out what is really happening. Unfortunately you are in the majority.
There is fake news out there although as far as I can tell it is more 'fake' news caused by omission and only telling half the story than by deliberately making stuff up (but that does happen too of course). Your media has probably caused more deaths by the crap they publish than the virus would have done by itself. And if you cannot work stuff out for yourself but only go on what the media tell you then you will probably be in a bad way soon.

Don't know who you are listening to, I haven't heard any reputable medical person say that masks don't work. Be careful who you listen to.

I don’t understand all the parsing about whether masks are 5% effective or 90% effective or whether droplets go up or down or sideways. What is so difficult about wearing a mask? Some of us complained about wearing seatbelts when they were introduced. Now we use them without even thinking about it—even though they don’t eliminate all deaths and injuries. Please wear a mask.

How one positions the mask does affects the efficacy of wearing a mask.

Those folks who keep the mask below their noses are the ones who obviously have not read the instructions.

A question for you. Would you take the word from an expert regarding anything for which there has never been a scientific study verifying its efficacy? I think not, especially if it involves your health. Well consider this--there has NEVER been a single scientific study verifying the eficacy of masks. JNot even a "risk reduction" study. "Wear a Mask" has no science of any kind prooving it's value as a disease preventer. It is merely a suggestion. I wear a mask for several reasons. Mostly because it aint worth the hassel not to. Ajnd I only wear it when indoors. The entire mask thing is political BS so as to convince the public that the politicians are actually doing something.

So sayeth one who never had to go through a CS course in basic training. "Okay, pull off your masks, NOW!!"

Chemical warfare back in WWI gave many the understanding regarding the need for face masks. Add to that the threat and use of germ warfare. There is an unbelievable amount of information regarding the efficacy and use of masks.

I have tried, but I really don't understand that attitude. Over and over I hear this thing that there has never been a scientific study that proves the efficacy of masks.

Isn't it enough to know that a mask will significantly reduce your risk of inhaling bad s--t? If you're caught in a sandstorm, don't you want to cover your face? Don't you wear a mask when you're sanding wood or drywall? When you're spray-painting? When you're working outside and are sensitive to allergens?......

And, if you don't care about yourself, don't you want to keep your s--t from hurting or killing another person?

Wearing face protection in the presence of large particulates-paint.wood sandings or saw dust , will protect you. But that is a very different vehicle than microscopic virus particulates. And again-there has NEVER been a single scientific study proving that masks prevent viral transfer. Do you believe that every one of those who died NEVER wore a mask? If ,masks worked every one would wear one 100% of the time and the pandemic would be over in a month
