I was just wondering if anyone has changed to aftermarket ink from original manufacturer for reason of cost and how it played out. I just picked up a new Canon printer and am researching this as I plan on running test sheets every few days to prevent clogs and am looking to have a backup set.
I've used 3rd party ink carts in Epson for decades with mostly good results. I'm picky about who I buy from, mostly via Amazon from suppliers with overwhelming (ie. 90%) 5 star feedback. I suggest you check out youtube videos by JToolman. Jose is a printer/ink techie who can teach you all you need to know.
If you just purchased a new canon printer you must know about their instant ink program. I haven’t purchased ink in quite awhile. I use the lowest program. Cost me about 60 bucks a year for up to 150 pages. If I use less, the rest rolls over. The printer is monitored via WiFi and they send the ink , which by the way contains more ink then the average, automatically. I haven’t bought store bought or any ink since.
I'm using ink from inkfarm. no problems to date

I have used third party ink for years. No problems.

My last Epson 7900 I exclusively used 3rd party inks with bulk cartridges. Saved a ton of money with no issues of quality. Did work for pros and sold a ton of my own work.
Instead of a test page just do a nozzle check on days you don’t use the printer. And do one before you print to insure your heads are clean. A nozzle check will insure all heads flow ink through them and you will detect any issues early on.
I would appreciate your sharing with all of us Epson printer users, the generic brand of ink you found to be good. Thanks, Stan
I’ve used cheap both color and black for years with few issues.
I have an Canon ip8720 it does an amazing job of printing 13x19 prints, but because I had pluging problems with another Canon printers with non-canon ink I have been hesitant to use 3rd party ink.
I use Jarbo ink cartridges from Amazon in my Canon printer for 2 yrs and no trouble

I have an Epson 1500W a3 printer which uses Clark's ink for those who are not familiar with Epson,s Claria it is an ink with extremely small droplets that give rich vibrant colours and is supposed not to face in 100 years according to computer simulation.
I only use the Epson ink as I have never found any company who sells their version of Clark's ink Even if I found a generic version of the ink I would not buy it as I am very pleased with the results of the genuine Epson ink
Costco has a refilling program, never had a problems and way less expensive than new.
I've converted an Epson R3000 to Ink Owl's carts with fine results. My Epson P800, however, is difficult unless I hack it (not so for the Europian models...*they* can use after market with impunity. Harrrrumph!) which I still may do. But, as another option, when my present supply gets low, I will use an Ink Owl tactic that will allow me to use larger, one-use, cartridges without trouble, which at my rate of usage will last prolly until I leave the planet.
I have used nothing but canon inks in a Pro-100 and 2600. I have never had ink clogs or any other problem caused by the in activity of the printer. I had continual problems with such things with Epson where they told me to run a test sheet weekly. Right now then I buy from canon I get 50 sheets of 13x19 paper free which helps defray the cost.

Haha...well, if you succumb to the hype you will run a test sheet weekly. I've owned Epson stuff forever and threw that idea out with the initial instructions...and haven't had a clog problem, even with my after-market inks. <shrug> YMMV, of course.
