I had a friend with the same issue. He was able to show that the shipping WT. on the package he shipped was much greater than the package he got in return. IT was resolved in his favor because of that.

I am new to EBay as a buyer. When I decide to use EBay. I do my research to find the same or similar item on line. Sometimes I’m lucky and sometimes not. When I find an item on EBay, I look carefully at the listing. Is the item exactly what I need? Is is damaged or defective in any way? Will I be able to use the item Completely as I intended? Where will the item be shipped from? Will there be shipping and handling fees? Is there a return policy? Does the Seller have a bad track record? With baited breath I’ll wait till the item arrives. If the item does not match the listing I will contact the seller. Hopefully a resolution can be reached.
All of this is assuming that the seller is legitimate. Also all of this assumes I am scrupulous (hence my name). I rarely buy a large ticket item on EBay. Most of the time, the item for sale is slightly cheaper than a brand new item. I will buy the brand new item instead. I have found that when there is a significant difference in the EBay price and a New price I will not buy the EBay listed item unless other items listed are within the same price range.

I have noticed that as we enter the realm of the Pandemic, many people become more unscrupulous. For example, who ever heard of a 4 dollar hot dog from a street vendor? Who ever heard of forty five dollars for an umbrella? Who ever heard of a contractor being paid in full before the work is begun? I have always been leery of bait and switch games. Now I have seen them more often. I have never seen this games played with a reputable and name brand store. It just seems to me as the circumstances become dire, more sellers become eager to enlarge their profit margin. Funny thing though, since we are all in lockdown, I have been watching more television, and reading books.

Please be well and stay safe.

I sold a car part to a fellow in Kentucky. 3 days later it was delivered. The buyer then stops payment because he hadn't received it. When I shared the delivery receipt and he says: "That doesn't do me any good, I'm in Germany!" Apparently there is a big mail forwarding operation in Kentucky. Notwithstanding I stated "no international shipping" PayPal wouldn't release the funds. Then he wanted the shipping charges from KY to DR reimbursed. I finally gave up and eventually got about 50 cents on the dollar. Seller beware!

Sorry for your loss.

I ship internationally all the time. If you accept shipping internationally you receive the shipping fee from the buyer for shipping to the Kentucky forwarding center. The buyer was charged the shipping and any import fees/duties from there to where ever they are that don't show up on the seller end. They are separate, the seller doesn't see it. That takes all the burden off the seller from that point.

In all the years of shipping overseas only once was an item lost after it left Kentucky. I was notified it was lost and the buyer was refunded by eBay, but I didn't lose any money as I fulfilled my obligation.

This is one for the seller, beware.
I had an item I sold on ebay a month ago, it had a few accessories included in the package, after to buyer had it a few days he states there is a problem and would like to return it, I agreed. he shipped it back, now USPS has the item, and it is delayed or misplaced for 10-12 days, the buyer is really getting mad about the delay and demands his money back, ebay does not recommend refunding payment until the item is returned an inspected, finally located and returned to me, I open the item and notice most of the accessories are missing that I shipped with the item. I ask what happened to the accessories he states they were return in package, there was no room for them the way it was packed and returned, I contacted ebay, and reported the shortage, $200.00 missing, kind of useless. I refunded his money marked it up as experience, needless to say the buyer posts negative feedback stating I was a criminal? ebay refuses to remove the feedback, and they will not refund my seller fees... total loss with shipping and fees of $284.65
I hope this will help anyone to think twice before selling items on ebay......

I've been an online seller for over 16 years (ebay, amazon, walmart and others). ebay recently changed their returns policy. As a Seller, you do have some control. ebay will allow the seller to withold up to 50% of the value based upon your description of the problem. You have the responsibility of insisting on the complete return including accessories, instructions, original box, etc. And you can tell that you do not accept things that show signs of wear/use, damage (accidental or other), sizing/altering, missing items, etc.

The lower the value of the item, the greater chance that the buyer expects the 'world' and will never appreciate anything that you do for them. You can be 'saved' by having a clearly detailed RETURNS policy. In many categories, ebay is allowing the seller to reduce the 30 days to as few as 14 days.

But, you may get negative feedback from a buyer. If you do, you also have a limited space as the seller to reply to the buyer's Neg. Keep your reply factual and professional.

What I find that is ironic is that as a seller On EBay you try to be reputable. Then someone requests a refund. You gladly accept the merchandise returned only to find that the buy damaged the goods and removed a part or so. Then, you later learn that you were given a bad rating. For one transaction, you were scammed four times. It doesn’t seem at all fair.

Burned once using EBay, that's all it took. Do not use EBay anymore.

I have stop using e-bay, if and when I wanted to sell something I use UHH only and ship only by USPS. I tell people up front no return and no shipping until I have the money in the bank.

That's funny, I have dealt with ebay for years, as a buyer and never have had a problem and I use PayPal for added protection. Always got my money back on things that I bought that were faulty or misrepresented. I am not afraid of ebay or PayPal.

Same here. Have purchased many items and because of their policies I can buy used gear with much confidence. Customer satisfaction is key to a successful business. Without that just close up shop and hang the out of business sign. Some customers take advantage but most are fairly honest. Same with sellers. It all works out in the end.

My experience as an occasional seller of photo gear that I no longer want is that no matter what you say in your listing, ebay requires you to accept returns (and pay the return shipping). The buyer just clicks a return button on his ebay screen and you get an email from ebay saying authorize the return postage or ebay will authorize it and charge your paypal account.

I purchased a car cover for my wife's Miata. Got a shipping conformation but no tracking number. It never arrived. Went back and forth with seller and ebay. Ebay said they would open a case. After a couple of weeks they said I would get a refund. It never showed up either. Contacted them a few more times but never did the refund.
Never did business with ebay again.

I recently bought a Nikon D200 camera with an extra lens from ebay, and if I had read this thread I wouldn't have chanced it. But all went well and the camera is great. My only complaint (and it is a small one) is that although it came with a battery charger and a spare battery, it didn't include a CF card, so I couldn't test it until I got one. Small problem, easily fixed with a trip to WallyWorld. 5 star feedback. I have used ebay for 25+ years, (back when I had to explain what it was; a co-worker was astonished that I would send money based on a little photo and description) and have had very little to complain about. This camera is the most I have ever paid for a single item.
