An OM-10 was my first SLR, bought on a trip to Hong Kong back in he 70s. Sorry to see them go

Wasn't that the OM-1 (nice metal body), so famously used by all the newspaper photographers? I had one as well. : )

The OM10 was a separate model. More of a consumer level camera.

Yes, just like the OM2n I use, that came after it.
An OM10 broke in my hands!

Olympus cameras are made in Vietnam and he only put the tariff on Chinese goods so I think he actually helped Olympus.

Olympus enlarged their existing Vietnam facility to replace their China facility due to the China-USA trade war ... IOW, to pull out of China to remain attractively priced in the US market.

The OM10 was the worst ever camera Olympus produced. The film transport drive gears were PLASTIC and the shutter mechanism had a sticky magnet problem causing chronic overexposure. It was so minimal in features you needed a separate adapter to set manual exposure! (designed for absolute beginners!)

The single digit OMs 1-2-1n-2n-2S-3/3T-4/4T are the best ever, designed by and approved by Maitani. The mechanical marvel OM-3ti commands a price on ebay the same as a good midrange digital camera body! Current listing for example - 【 Near Mint 】Olympus OM-3 Ti 35mm SLR Film Camera Body Black With Grip Japan#630 https://ebay.us/d8o7wK via @eBay

I am an avid Oly fan. As some of you may know, their imaging division was sold to JIP. Oly will be out of the camera business as of 1Jan. Today, I went on their website and saw that they are shutting their site down for "maintenance" purposes right around the holidays. This is obviously not truthful. Any business that shuts down their retail site around Christmas is run by a fool. See that attached screen shot. What a sad situation.

I'm new to this thread, but FWIW there is no such message on the Canadian Olympus site. It looks like business as usual.

On a recent trip to the Chattanooga airport there was a display of BMW motorcycles.... A little description poster stated that BMW motorcycles was a division of Lamborghini, and Lamborghini is a division of Audi which is a division of VW. Since Chattanooga has the largest VW plant in the world I thought this was interesting. Point being, if the badge on the bike was VW instead of BMW, would it make a difference ?

It was 1940 and I was 6. We had just moved from Seattle to Lookout Mountain, TN, for my father's new job in Chattanooga. Our family was eating at a restaurant down in Chattanooga when I spied a woman who looked lonely and went over to her (at 6 one does things like that!). Our family became friends with her the rest of her life. We discovered that it was her family who owned the land on which the airport was built and had sold it to the builders.

I believe it will be towards the bottom. It was there on the OlympusAmerica site and the GetOlympus.com site but at the bottom.

I use GetOlympus.ca for Canada and I cannot find the message anywhere. So I looked at the GetOlympus.com site and I cannot find the message there either.

Maybe it's just me. I'm not very good at finding things on web sites that seem easy for others.

Sadly Nostalgia doesn't drive lnnovation, or we'd all be driving around in a '78? Super Bug VW, listening to 8 track players, recording football on VHS players.
In the image universe Kodak showed the world what power given to slow thinking executives can produce.
And the world be sprinkled with happy Olympus snappers. RIP this great company ( maybe )

Again, they are not gone yet. Yes, they can disappear just like Nikon very well could disappear. And if they don't bring out a new sensor in their cameras after selling off most of their inventory, yes, they are probably will be gone or just a niche camera company. I'll still be able to use everything I have on a Panasonic. They need to make the investment for a 24mp to 25 mp sensor.

Like most Oly users, I've been concerned about the "new company" that has acquired Olympus Camera, wondering if there will be new cameras in the future. Wondering if it was time to switch to another brand. But I have a fair amount of investment in Oly lenses that I like a lot. So instead of jumping ship I picked up a EM1 Mkiii for a good price ($500 off), sold my Mkii for what I considered a good price, and have had the new toy in hand for a couple of days. I'm pleasantly surprised that they actually wrung more performance out of that old sensor, delivered even better IBIS. I love the new button array, and am looking forward to experimenting with handheld high res and night sky, and the virtual ND filter. All the new features are things I have wished for. So I've extended the life of my lens collection for a while, and gained some treats along the way. Trying to have a little fun in strange times.

A 12% increase in resolution will save their bacon ? Hardly worth the R&D.

Most pros can work in the 20mp to 30mp range. The upper Canons were running 28mp. The problem for 4/3rds is it is 1/4 the surface area of FF. That means the 20mp 4/3rds sensor holds pixels per square inch the same as a 80mp FF sensor. At 24mp to 25mp, it would be like having one quarter of a 96mp to 100mp FF sensor. And a 30mp 4/3rds sensor would be a quarter of a 120mp FF sensor. To have a 4/3rds put out what it does is amazing. Now with the newer pixel technology brought on by smartphones and the great software advances throughout the industry, yes, 24mp to 30mp could very well "save their bacon". How many pros do you hear from shouting, "More pixels, Scotty, more pixels!" Most of what the pros shoot can be covered in the 20mp to 30mp range. Otherwise Hasselblads would be selling like hot cakes.

So true it's not all about MPs - it's also about S/N ratio, DR. This is the main downside of M43 in demanding applications.
