At $10 a month photoshop and Lightroom is really cheap for what you get. Suck it up and join you’ll never regret it.

The OP was a Picasa user and is looking for a similar free, simple and easy to use replacement. So instead, you are suggesting he should pay $10 a month, every month forever for a professional level full-featured suite of programs that has a very significant learning curve?

I still use Picasa. Search for a web link for the installation setup. it's no longer supported by Google though It works fine for me. I love it for sorting my photos by date or title.

There is an old adage, "If it works, don't fix it!" I sometimes still use it. I also still use Canon's Zoombrowser Ex, which they no longer include with new cameras. For more ability, I use an old PhotoShop (No monthly fee).

Does it really have to be free. Photoshop Elements comes with Organizer. It has a very basic "Quick" mode and a "Guided" mode to to some of the confusing stuff. It is on it's annual discount at $60 today, maybe tomorrow. Then it goes back to $100.

$60 isn't free, but pretty cheap compared to cameras, lenses and even driving to where you can take pictures.

Bill, I use Lightroom Classic (monthly subscription). Can I achieve the same results with Photoshop Elements as I can do with Lr Classic desktop?

I moved up to Lightroom ages ago, but still use Picasa for doing the titling and other texting on albums. I understand that this is possible to be done in Lightroom also, but since I am so familiar with the Picasa routine, I have never investigated it.

Does this verion of Picassa,or the other options suggested here, provide face recognition? I loved that old feature to help me quickly locate my photos of a specific person.

You might look at Seriff Affinity Photo. You can download a trial version for both Mac and Windows and it is a very good replacement for Adobe Photoshop and should be easier to learn. Seriff supplies over 90 tutorials on how to use their tools. For a program at $50, it beats the pants off Adobe Photoshop Elements in my opinion. It also has better and more powerful/accurate tools than Faststone Image Viewer and the other free software programs. It is also compatible with Nik and other filter software. It also supports Raw File processing, layers, HDR, photo stacking, panorama building. They also offer 30% off offers at different times to lower cost. Worth looking at.

In my humble opinion, if you don't read the question, you can't answer the question,
and we all know that opinion is much better than providing facts with references.
Thanks, I needed that. <Grin>

Second thoughts: I apologize if I hurt anyone's feelings
with my attached post.
That was not my intent.
I should have remained silent and vented my

Hi There: You can still use Picasa and it is still available for free. Only thing that has happened is that Google has stopped supporting it and you can't email pictures as before, but there is a workaround for the email thing. Contact Markngolf, on this site. He has also responded to your post and is willing to help you get Picasa for free and the email workaround for the emails. He helped me with the same problem a few years ago and I am still using Picasa with no problems with anything. I have used several of the other programs listed. None of them are as user friendly as Picasa. Faststone would be your next pic for free.

Has anyone found a good (free) replacement for Picassa? I miss the features that it offered like cropping, lightening, straightening out and mostly--adding captions to your photos with a choice of white or black lettering. It was so simple to use compared to LR and other expensive programs. Any suggestions for a replacement? normpel@comcast.net

I just downloaded Picasa from here: https://picasa.en.uptodown.com/windows

Should be good to go! Worked for me perfectly!

I agree. You can drill down on the light for 7 different settings and 5 on color, plus a "pop" (contrast).
Plus cropping, rotating. NO TEXT other than comments.
