Ah, truth in old age. I'm not familiar with the term "plugger," though.

"Pluggers", are defined as blue-collar workers who live a typical working-class American lifestyle, accompanied by a mentality characteristic of the WWII Veteran and Baby Boomer generations. “They represent the 80 percent of humanity who unceremoniously keep plugging along, balancing work, play and family life. Pluggers encounter and conquer obstacles in their lives, but they always have a positive attitude and a good sense of humor.“ This one of my favorite cartoon series... you can see yourself in almost everyone.

If ONLY I could make it through the night. Not because I need to go, but because I just can't get in 8 straight hours without waking up. Then I have to nap to make up the lost hours.

There is no set pattern for everyone. That is your particular rhythm...make the most of it.

Used to be a ham radio operator. We got into contesting. The contests ran 24 or 48 hours straight. So we had a guy talk to our club about sleep, and in particular, naps.
Basically he said that people have the three phases of sleep: light, medium, and heavy (REM). People cycle through those phases. The average cycle time is 45 minutes. If you are awakened during the light phase, no problem. If you are awakened during the REM sleep, it's like you never got any sleep. So if you schedule a nap, make it a multiple of 45 minutes. If you wake up spontaneously (not in response to some event) you were probably in the light sleep phase. You can either stop your nap or go back for 45 minutes more.
As a result, I stopped using an alarm clock. After a couple months I would wake up at the right time without any problem. That doesn't mean I slept through the night, but that I didn't have a problem getting up when I woke up. Since I had a physically active job I had no problem getting to sleep.
Now that I'm in my 80s I wake up after a few hours of sleep. I get up to pee then, whether I need to or not. It prevents future problems and seems to help going back to sleep.
My wife has trouble sleeping. She finds that if she has soup for dinner she is better hydrated and tends to sleep better. Soup seems to do the trick, but beverages don't. Maybe it's something in the digestive process. At any rate, it's something easy to try.
