Great series of images. I remember being at the cathedral in 2003, looking up at the VERY high ceilings and wondering, how’d they do that, 800 years ago? Amazing.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful photos. I love Prague; its rabbit-warren of streets fascinate me. I also love photos of churches and you’ve done well with them.

My wife and I were maried in this wonderful cathedrale on August 9, 1973. It was full with tourists and our family. We are still married today.

Prague, Czech Republic – St. Vitus Cathedral, Part 1 – the Church

In 2015, my church choir vade a concert tour of Europe (we sang 4 concerts) and one of the cities we visited was Prague in the Czech Republic. While there, we toured the St. Vitus Cathedral. (I would have sworn that I posted a set of these photos, but a search does not find it – I guess I dreamed it.)

The Metropolitan Cathedral of Saints Vitus, Wenceslaus and Adalbert is a Roman Catholic metropolitan cathedral in Prague, the seat of the Archbishop of Prague. Until 1997, the cathedral was dedicated only to Saint Vitus, and is still commonly named only as St. Vitus Cathedral. It is the last of 3 churches erected on the site, all dedicated to St. Vitus. Construction of the present-day Gothic Cathedral began on 21 November 1344. Construction went slowly, and in 1541 the building was heavily damaged by fire. It was not completed until 1929, having taken almost 600 years to be built. The main organ in the northern transept was built in 1929-1931 by Josef Molzel and more recently overhauled by Brachtl a Kánský. It is not huge, having 3 manuals, 58 stops, and 4,475 pipes.

Prague, Czech Republic – St. Vitus Cathedral, Part... (show quote)

I spent just one day in Prague in 2005,
and was overwhelmed by impressions... of course, never made it to the Cathedral, so that thanks, David, for sharing your excellent photos!

I think it was 1968 when I saw Prague for the first (and, so far last) time. It was, and probably still is, my favourite city. Feelings remain when memory fades: you have rekindled both. Thanks. Looking forward keenly to more like these.

mchroust, that must have been a fabulous experience! Thanks so much for relating it.

Bubalola, I'm pleased I was able to fill in what you hadn't been able to see.

Lingen, I don't recall having seen you before--thanks for coming. In case you haven't noticed before, I have posted many other churches to UHH. Go to this link and you can access all my posts: https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/user-topic-list?page=1&usernum=66435

I have been before, many times, and admired your churches. But Prague is a bit special, isn't it? I don't post that often because, frustratingly, my posts seldom seem to make the jump from 'Upcoming Topics' to 'Main Photography Discussion', so I've given up.

Doug, thank you for your nice comment. You're welcome.

Lingen, thanks again. I've had the same thing happen, but I don't let it bother me. There are literally hundreds of new postings every day and only a couple of dozen make it to the Daily Digest. I find some folks do look at the Newest Topics listing and make it to my posts that way. On days when I post multiple sets (to cover a topic more fully) I try to link them--that way, if one makes it to the Digest, it leads people to the others (sometimes).
