We took the Tamron 18--400. to Kenya 3 years ago and took over 700 shots with it. It went through heat and cold and dust every day. Now, 3 years later it still performs flawlessly. We also took a couple of Nikon lenses and used them a little. Overall the Tamron performed flawlessly and we have a few plants even larger than 8 x 10 and they are still very good quality. For the price and performance, it is definitely one to consider.

The crop factor DOES affect it for the purposes of increased DOF for the SAME FOV as compared to full frame.

Well sure - smaller format = larger DOF for the same Aperture, but it has NOTHING to do with exposure. We’ve just had a long and unproductive discussion on another thread with a member that has misinterpreted this (from a Utube video from Tony N.) to mean that a smaller sensor needs a longer exposure because of “less Photons collected by the sensor”, and no amount of information would convince him that the exposure is the same regardless of format size for a given f#, SS and ISO, so I just wanted to clarify. f# is a calculated number and has nothing to do with format. it is simply the ratio of the focal length divided by the diameter of the entrance pupil.

The OP wants a lens for his D7200, a DX camera. With either the 24-120 or 28-300, both FX lenses, he would have a not very wide 36 or 42 mm equivalent at the low end. The Nikon 18-140 3.5 5.6 DX got excellent reviews, and would provide a very useful range for not a great deal of money.

I have and use the 18-140mm nikon. It is impressive even not considering the cost.

I just reread all the comments and they are all correct. He wanted a all round lens and every lens mentions is round (on the end).

The 16-85 was my walk around/most used for our national parks trip. I had a d7000 at the time. I did bring a host of other lenses but rarely used them.

I settled on this lens as well, seems to work out well for me.

Nikon 16-80mm lens. Great for general work. I have 12-60mm for Olympus too as this covers the same FOVs as the 16 -80mm but for micro 4/3. The full frame equivalent would be 24-120mm.

My 18-140MM performs nicely on my D7100.

I can enlarge & crop without significant deterioration.

Hi y'all,

Looking for suggestions for an all around
lens for travel for my Nikon D7200.

Thank you.

I used the Nikkor 16-80 mm lens on my D7100 and now D7500. That's the Full-frame equivalent of 24-120 mm. All around Europe, that was more than enough reach. However, if you're in the western US, a longer lens like the Tamron 18-400 would be most useful. I carry the Nikkor 70-300 as a second lens a lot of the time.

Happy Trails,
Dick

I believe you will like it. I have two main lens and it is one of them. I live in Wyoming and there is a lot of wildlife to be seen here. I bought the 18-140 for the short end and the Tamron 150-600 G2 for the long end so I feel pretty well covered length wise. If money were no object would I do something different? Probably but wouldn't most of us...

I have a Sigma18-300 Contemporary for my D7500. I really love it.

I have the same camera and I use either the Tamron 18-200 or 18-400. Both take great pics for my use! Good luck!
