Hi all. Here's a crazy request some of you may be able to answer. I'm old (81) and don't get around much. I use a scooter. I love to take pictures and, at least technically, I'm pretty good at it. BUT. I need to find some spots where I can find pictures from my car window. I live in central coastal New Jersey. Brigantine Wildlife Reserve has a wonderful driving section and Allaire State Park is great from my scooter, but it seems I take the same pictures every time I go there. Any suggestions? By the way, I know there are many of you out there with the same kind of restrictions I have. Maybe we could start a group to share information. Old Fart Photo Society?

Cape May Point has a wonderful Hawk watch platform that is accessible (or was the last time I was there).

I assume you shoot with the engine off. I would expect engine vibration would cause image blur?

I have no problem with engine vibration, never have.

Depending upon the time of day, the lighting, and how you frame it, and process it, interesting subjects can be captured without a specific destination in mind. Don't limit yourself to landscape subjects that everyone has captured millions of times. Create images based on light, color shape, line, shadow, and texture. Even the ordinary can be interesting. Try different angles and different framing. Experiment.

There are photo opportunities literally everywhere. These images were all captured not too far from my home in Central NJ. For most of them I was out driving and running errands. There were no particular plans to photograph anything. I keep my camera in my car just in case I see something that interests me. Two of these were captured from within my car. The snow scene was captured from a second floor bathroom window at the rear of my house. The dark area on the ground is my partially snowed over koi pond.

I live in a heavily populated and completely built up suburban township of 100,000. Its not a pretty township, but I am never left wanting for something new to shoot in and around it.

How awesome! At 67, my joints don’t cooperate for long walks, hikes, hills, or rugged terrain like they used to so I often shoot from my car window. Country roads are great with less traffic and plenty of scenery. I’m sure you’ll be able to find some nifty shooting sites too. Enjoy.

I am an advocate for a good bean bag over a pool noodle if you spend a lot of time shooting from the car. The big difference is that you can let go of the camera without it falling. Especially good if you are sitting in one spot waiting for a subject to show up or the light to change.

That's a beautiful and novel set. Thanks so much for posting. I found the first shot fascinating. We used to have a Caltech Ph.D. in astrophysics teaching high school math, and he put together a fascinating structure which could be manipulated to create polygons of various sizes. It looks like an n-gon structure for teaching advanced mathematics students. It also resembled a kind of fancy veil that women used to wear to look stylish. So, what was it in actuality? You also used partial coloring of that red car in the black and white shot. Nice technique. Keep it up, but stay well and protected.

Download an app called Alltrails. It is free unless you decide to get the premium service which you do not need. Then search for bike paths or easy trails. Many of the trails will be scooter friendly. I was my mom's care giver. I was constantly looking for places to take my mom in her wheelchair and take pictures at the same time. I had to push her chair, I was her motor. I live in north Jersey and there are no shortage of places to go. Also do a search for rail trails in your area. We used an ADA van to get around.
Good luck in your search.

I also live in New Jersey and recommend any place along the Shark and/or Manasquan Rivers. Also try a trip through the Pine Barrens, and the park at the top of the Highlands. For a day trip have you tried High Point State Park. Was just at High Point State Park and took a few photos by the Monument although it was closed. There are also some trails along various parks by the Delaware River.

You may desire to travel a little farther and try the Wildlife Drive at Bombay Hook in Delaware. Also check out what a Delorme shows for New Jersey. You may discover roads to the bay or ocean which provide good views of the marsh, bay, or even some meadows. On some of the Maryland back roads I can shoot photos of Grasshopper and other sparrows on roadside fences.

One suggestion from this corner.

The routes you normally drive or scooter may give you gobs of new looks just by heading in the opposite direction, if it's possible to do it that way.

No matter how many times a person plays the same golf course and gets used the beauty of the holes, they can look very different and pretty in a whole different way when looking at them from green to tee.

While I have no suggestions to add to all of the wonderful ones I have already seen here, I just wanted to say that this was more of a refreshing thread to see here. I am sad I had to go back so many pages already to come across it. Seems there are fewer and fewer discussions on here about techniques and different ways to capture images like there used to be when I first joined and I have missed it. It was great to come upon a thread like that and see all of the awesome answers and suggestions for everyone.
