Has anyone found a good (free) replacement for Picassa? I miss the features that it offered like cropping, lightening, straightening out and mostly--adding captions to your photos with a choice of white or black lettering. It was so simple to use compared to LR and other expensive programs. Any suggestions for a replacement? normpel@comcast.net

I still use Picasa. Search for a web link for the installation setup. it's no longer supported by Google though It works fine for me. I love it for sorting my photos by date or title.

I still use Picasa with no problems. As stated above, it still does almost everything I need. It's somewhat like the Timex Watch ads-it just keeps on working.
Does it really have to be free. Photoshop Elements comes with Organizer. It has a very basic "Quick" mode and a "Guided" mode to to some of the confusing stuff. It is on it's annual discount at $60 today, maybe tomorrow. Then it goes back to $100.
$60 isn't free, but pretty cheap compared to cameras, lenses and even driving to where you can take pictures.

Both Irfanview and Fastone Image Viewer are free; their editing capabilities are as good as or better than Picasa, which remains as state-of-the-art for the year 2016, when Google stopped supporting it, while the other two Apps have evolved with the times, so to speak.
General Note:
I believe suggested alternatives - Picasa, Fastone, and Irfanview are not compatible with Mac OSX.
Here is an article that may help you with alternatives. I have used FastStone for years for simple things and PS for most of my PP. FastStone is PC based only. Gary

I have got to like DxO PhotoLab, as a result of a recommendation on Ugly Hedgehog. The latest is PhotoLab 4. But I still consider myself a learner.
Google Photo has a nice photo editor that does all the basics, crop, rotate(straighten), lighten/darken, as well as a nice set of color/presets. It is free.

I don’t think the new Mac OS will; but I’m running High Sierra and Picasa works just fine.

I use/used Picasa 3. Now I use PhotoScapeX free. They both work well for me. PhotoScapeX can be used accurately with 3 or 4 clicks or you can REALLY get into serious editing. Here are a couple of sites for you, Enjoy. Be sure to select Mac/or Windows. Get the free version first (it never expires), and you can always upgrade. Also, please do yourself a favor and watch the following YouTube videos to see if you would be interested, and for training.

At $10 a month photoshop and Lightroom is really cheap for what you get. Suck it up and join you’ll never regret it.
