Jim, do you have an FFL? Just curious as I have purchased a number of firearms (both rifles & handguns) online in the past 7 or 8 yrs and all had to be shipped to a local FFL for me to take possession, for a fee, of course. Or is there an exception when shipped from a firearm manufacturer? P.s. I have a Henry .22 mag. Beautiful piece of work.

I do not have an FFL. Henry sent an RMA label and I dropped it off at UPS. Then UPS delivered it to me at home.

That is a beautiful rifle. I lived in Flagstaff Az. for 40 years and when I 40 through Flag was extended to 4 lanes, on the east end of town they excavated for for the anchor of the bridge over I-40 they found buried in the earth 100 cases of 45-70 ammo the army placed there for future use, back in the late 1800's, I think.

I helped Henry Arms get sanctioned for Cowboy Action (SASS). For that effort Anthony Emperanto (President) sent me one of the first off the line .357 Golden Boys. Really heavy so it is used for long range stages. Very accurate too. Not quite the range of the 45/70 but I needed a rifle of the same caliber as my pistols. Yours is also nicer looking since I do not have any stock work. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine.

I don't do any SASS shooting anymore. When I did I went by the name Marcus Absent. Fun organization.

I guess they just opened a new manufacturing facility in North Central Wisconsin, about 4-5 hours from me. I'll have to see it in late spring or summer. It should be fun.

Good to see that Henry Rifle Company made good. I remember having a Trap Door Springfield in 45-70 great rifle to shoot. I also use to hunt with it. Got talk into sell it, bad move. Today that rifle has a value of $1,200 or more.

Hope you don't mind a question from someone not familiar with firearms. The rifle seems as much a work of art as a firearm. Is the company the same one that provided repeating rifles to the Union Army during the Civil War?

Gee a real beauty! Makes me want for an old freind I had at one time. Another lever action, the Savage 99E in .308. Held 5 rounds in Its internal rotary magazine. They are no longer made.

Yes, through out history firearms have been made into works of art. You can go to some of the top museum of the world and you will see firearms in the art part of the museum. To answer your second question. No, the Henry's rifle of the Civil War, is not the same Henry's Repeating Arms of today. To buy a Civil War's Henry rifle with military marking on it you would pay up to $ 50,000 or more.

The North-South Skirmish Association (N-SSA) is an historical and competitive organization whose goal is to maintain the knowledge of the unique firearms used during the American Civil War. It is organized into several regions, mostly in the eastern and northeastern part of the country. Check it out at http://www.n-ssa.org/

Thank you for the information. What also impressed me about the rifle was the designs were not overdone.
