Looks like a dirty sensor to me.

It's on your sensor, not the lens. Dust / spots on the sensor will tend to appear at smaller apertures, say f/8 and smaller. So, one way to avoid is to use wider apertures; not always an option, of course.

Consider investigating the mirror lock-up procedure for your DSLR and use an airblower like a Giotto Rocket-Air or a wet cleaning where you need to purchase a kit for DIY. A local camera shop might offer the same service, for anywhere between $50 and $100, depending on their level of price gouging.

This link includes before and after pictures of the Rocket-Air DIY: An exercise in sensor cleaning

Dust on the sensor. If the camera has interchangeable lens capability, take the camera to a camera store that offers sensor cleaning or buy a cleaning kit and do it yourself. It’s not difficult - I did mine. I have the same issue with a non-interchangeable lens compact. Until it gets really bad I just “spot” the spots out in post processing.

Are you near a reputable camera service center? I't's be worth a trip into the shop to get it taken care of. Does your camera feature a sensor shaker? That might be worth a try. No brushes, no canned air. Maybe one of those rubber blowers you squeeze. Just be careful not to let the nozzle wiggle around and hit something.

Please explain how you get to the business side of the sensor on a non-interchangeable lens compact? And how something might have gotten on it.

Thanks Brian

Roy,

From Camano Island, your best bet is the hour drive to Kenmore Camera. But, be careful, the place is full of great stuff to buy and the staff is very good. When you're done you can visit the seaplane base and take pictures. There are a lot of eagles that hang out in the trees on the north end of the lake too.

I didn't say I did. Please re-read the post. Your guess is as good as mine as to how dust gets inside a compact camera. They are not all weather sealed to my knowledge.

Lars,
You can easily remove a dust spot it Lightroom. Probibly a ew other programs as well.
In LR simply use the spot removal tool.

Please tell how you solved this with a non interchangeable lens? I've had this myself, couldn't figure a cure other than pitch the camera in the trash.
