Couple years ago I bought a knock-off go pro type camera and for all I can tell it was made in the same Chinese factory but was approx one third the price. I've been pleased enough with its performance--I've used it in waterslide tunnels, pools, saltwater kayaking, white water rafting and snorkeling so I'm pleased. The instruction booklet was marginal but a little experimentation finally won out. I've seen other people using "real" go pro with some nice features such as smart phone control and been a little jealous but it may just be a newer model. A few years ago some pundits were predicting Go Pro's demise but they seem to be doing something right and continue to lead the action cam pack. I'd check out You Tube for some comparison videos , compare features, and see if they matter to you and your application(s).

This may be beyond the purview of this group but am wondering if I can tap into it's collective wisdom and knowledge by asking for recommendations on the purchase of a GoPro or similar small, waterproof mostly video camera. Plan on using it when kayaking and for taking video when placed on board my O-gauge (mostly Lionel) trains. Confess to knowing next to nothing about them. Thanks. Mike

I got a Pilot Dual Cam CL-3016 over a year ago. No problems. Got it for my harley. Comes with waterproof case also says 1.5 hr battery though haven't tested the time yet. Amazon has all different prices but under $100

I have had two Go Pros; totaled one when it fell off my car windshield mount. It was useful and got many great moving pics.

I replaced it with a Go Pro black, built in monitor much improved. Have also gotten some great movies, mostly on car when driving on the Dragon. Used both of them for underwater, great movies. My son in law mounted on his kayak and got several close ups of gators.

Never been unhappy with purchase, although I don't use it that much.

Lynda.com has a good instructional series about how to use the GoPro.
