Donald Eugene Conley, of Muskogee, Oklahoma USA, is the only person in history to play for both a MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONSHIP team and for a MATIONAL BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION team.
Conley pitched one and two thirds innings in game three for the MILWAUKEE BRAVES in relief of starter Bob Buhl, against the NEW YORK YANKEES. Conley surrendered a home run to future hall of famer ... the 'COMMERCE COMET' ... Mickey Charles Mantle, but was the winning pitcher as the Braves won 12-3 and took the series in seven games.
Conley also played in the 1958-1959 season for the BOSTON CELTICS who downed the MINNEAPOLIS LAKERS in four straight games, he made a return appearance with the Celtics in the 1960-1961 season as they defeated the SAINT LOUIS HAWKS by winning four games against a single loss.
Thanks-and, I certainly didn't know that Mickey moniker (its not on the baseball I have with his signature...)

Mickey was raised in Commerce, Oklahoma and played for Commerce High School, the nickname didn't last long in New York City.

He was Know in the Bronx as "The Mick"......
I worked for several years at the Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas. Mick's God-daughter was the event planner and grew up next door to him. Mick and her Dad were great friends. When I was a kid and learned that he was making 100K/yr., what it meant to me was that he could buy a new baseball glove every game. So much for the economic understanding of a 7-8 year old.
Besides his baseball prowess, Mick was also known for his wild side. In Dallas, he was known for playing golf naked at Preston Hollow C.C. Heck, if you can't keep your shirt tucked in when you swing, just forget the whole kit 'n kibootle.

Yikes.... and I remember Bob Buhl!..... saw him pitch!
I can top that. Who is the only person to play for the New York Yankees, Mets, Knicks, Rangers, Islanders and Cosmos? Give up? The man is Eddie Layton, organist for over 40 years at Yankee Stadium and for a shorter time at Madison Square Garden and for the Islanders.
