Today I would like to talk about something that's called a "nut", and I'm not talking here about the kind of nut that's edible. I'm talking about something that's very Complex and very important! It comes in all sizes and configurations, so I find it difficult to understand why someone long ago would name this item a "nut"!
This item item they call a "nut" renders a threaded stud or bolt useless unless the item with a threaded hole in it called a "nut" is used to secure whatever to the stud or bolt.
Must say here, that this subject seems to be getting a bit suggestive?,, so let me attempt to clean the subject up a bit. As you probably know, sometimes certain hardware is referred to as "male or female". I have found it a bit awkward at times when describing an item to a women customer using that description, especially when I detect a slight smile.
Getting back to the word "nut" or "nuts", the words tend to be derogatory, especially when describing someone or something?. Must confess here that even I have been described that way.
So here I'm suggesting that we rename the item with a threaded hole in it called a "nut" to a more refined name, that being a "Yin-dal"... Also, lets call the threaded stud or bolt a "Yang-ie..
Penny for Your thoughts? Cheers to all, Malvin

How about threaded fastener?
However, a nut by any other name is still a "nut".
Thank you Mr. digit-up, for not directly calling me a "nut", but leaving your reply as a debatable question. I must admit that I've been occasionally discussed with the term "nut" all my life. Let me explain here, my parents had a sense of humor when they named me "Malvin", knowing that for short I would be called "Mal".
Now that normally would be fine, but when your last name is "Funkshin", it possibly had an effect on me?..
Thanks again for your interest in a "Yin-dal...

Can you give us more of an explanation of why you prefer that term. I understand that Yin has a connection to 'female' and Yang to 'male' but the suffixes don't ring any bells for me.

Point o ponder, what if your brother was Chuck Norris?
You have too much time on your hands and you should put your pondering to better use!
You have either a bolt or a stud all you would need to complete the project is a fastener
I have always called them a 'stricter', or 'restricter'.
Rename a peanut to a peeyang?
