I still have mine and always use it. Bought it new 9 years ago, great camera that handles like a miniature DSLR.

It's an interesting, and somewhat quirky camera. Has the full set of controls of a high end DSLR crammed in to a small body, and pretty good image quality for its small sensor. It also has the tilt type screen, which I very much prefer to the fully articulated type. The tilt type is faster to use, less vulnerable to damage, and puts the screen right where it belongs for waist level viewing, not off to the side. Most manufacturers are getting this wrong, IMHO.

Beware the zoom button around the shutter release. It's known to be easily knocked off. I like the P7100.

Thank you for the tips - do you have any experience with the P7700?

I don't have experience with the p7700 but it is a small upgrade to the p7100, most notably, 12 pixels instead of 10.

Thanks I did look at the P7700 specs mainly the sensor (CCD > CMOS) --- to capture video.

In my experience for shooting stills CCD are better (from my NASA friend - space camera expert), I hardly ever shoot video

Hi,

I just bought a P7100 on eBay - described as a 9+ condition.

But it has one odd 'behavior' When trying to insert the memory card into its slot, it does not seat or 'snap in to place' --- just pops back up. I closed the battery door and 'it seems to push it down into place'

Never had this happen: is this typical of P7100? Or, should it snap in to place like a typical camera?

Comments, suggestions (tried 2 other cards from mu other Nikon and neither snap into place)?

False alarm: problem solved...upon close inspection of the SD card bay (using my iPhone as a microscope) found a small chip of plastic (from a prior card) interfering with the spring loaded keeper --- deftly remove by my wife with a pair of surgical tweezers...
