I have a mid 2012 model that I will upgrade the memory to 16 gb and change the HD to 1TB SSD. It has a 2.5 Intel Core i5 and I will only use this Mac for photos and editing (no video).
I'm new to the digital world of photography and hoping that this looks like a good way to start editing both Raw and JPEG formats.

Also, I intend to change to Catalina. I'd like to use Lightroom but I'm looking for suggestions.

Thanks for any help,
Bob

The opinion of oldtimer Macphiles, including me, this is one of the best MBPro models 13" or 15" Apple ever made, the i7 the better. But for approximately $100 for upgrading the RAM and a 1TB SSD, 1/10th the cost of a new MB-M1 that cannot be upgraded AFAIK, grab the upgrade parts and a toolkit if needed and go for it. Attach an external monitor, I plugged a 32" via DVI to the TBolt port and have no interest in buying a newer, unupgradeable model.

My motto in life. Worry about the cost when the CC bill arrives.
