I just bought a HP laptop---Ryzen 5-4500U (6 core CPU) (11,200) cpu rating, 8DDR4 ram, 512SSD, Radeon graphics , FHD IPS screen. Was such a good price -- had to try it($379) Have old Lightroom 5 and works great on my old computer with a Ryzen 3200U with 4DDRram.
With this new Lightroom Classic download for Photography will this computer run it without extra ram?
Not really familiar with the new software and it's power needs. Use a Canon 5DSR(50 mgp).

8-16DDRAM is suggested for lightroom. It will just be slower with 4DDRAM

This computer is slow. The CPU is 1/2(5900) the speed and a 4 core. The AMD Ryzen is twice as fast(11,200) and is a 6 core. The ram is more , but I can add the ram cheaply 16DDR$ ($50) 4+16=20DDR4 RAM. I have had bad luck with the one refurbished computer I tried. AMD Ryzen CPUs are a better bang for your buck.
Besides I have already purchased this computer.

Add the 8GB extra RAM, and you should have a capable machine. I’m assuming it is 64 bit Win 10?

Hard for me to accept the "8th Gen., refurbished" versions, when i know the 11th Gen is already available. I went the "refurbished HP" route 3 years ago, as it was the only way to get a computer with a built-in CD drive. It works well when it is not crashing 5 times per day.

Dik, I have a high end Dell laptop on order which will be here in two weeks. How do you check/change the graphics performance to the dedicated graphics card? Thanks.

It was a Walmart ad that started on 11/11. It was a incredible deal. I have run the new classic Photoshop on it with the standard configuration and it keeps up--6 core Ryzen CPU with a benchmark of 11,200. I think they are out of stock or the deal is over. Didn't want to spend a fortune on a Laptop as I am only a recreational Photographer, but I do use a Canon 5DSR. Maybe you can find something similar on Black Friday. It has a beautiful FHD IPS screen.

This is a copy of the eMail I sent to Dell... There were several issues... My laptop was an XPS 15 9500. I ordered it with the smallest M.2 drive with the intent of installing my own... Sabrent 2TB and put 2 of these in... motherboard only uses PCIe 3, not 4... if 4, then you can use a faster M.2 drive. When I told them what my intentions were regarding M.2s, the advised me that the warranty would be void. When it arrived, I immediately stress tested the system to 'burn it in' and make sure it was nearly bulletproof. I then switched the M.2 drives. Also got the high resolution 'touch screen'... it's great... the nicest 'small' display I've ever seen. My eMail to Dell: I can send you a list of the benchmarks I used for stress testing (caution some of these can cause harm). I used Crystal Mark for the testing data I sent to Dell.
My laptop is up and running; I have a few comments that you can improve on. I've attached benchmarks of a 'after' and 'factory' issue. The current machine is great, and vastly improved.
You should not use the M.2 drive that was supplied... it is inferior. The one benchmark shows the improvement over the factory M.2. I've thrown better stuff out. The improvement on the new M.2 does not rely on it being 'raided' to improve the results.
In addition, you should provide the latest BIOS for both the motherboard and the graphics card. Both supplied BIOS had been updated numerous times.
You should also set the graphics to the default graphics card and not the Intel motherboard processor. You can see the improvements in the attached files.
Your technical guys should be aware of the above. I'm still happy with the computer, but am a little disappointed with the original product.
The graphics card is selected in the Hardware Manager of Windows... Using Win 10 Pro 64 bit. I could have saved a few dollars by having the original with Win 10 Home or whatever, because I purchased my own copy of Win 10.
