Thank you all for your kind words.
Great detail, they jump out at you in the download.
Very nice image. The dark background really makes them pop.
Great photo! I have a question for you. I noticed on the stalk on the left that there is a clip that holds the stem of the orchid to a support post. The part of the clip that you press on looks almost transparent. Why? What was the background for the orchids? What was the light reflecting off of? I'm trying to understand how you got that effect. My assumption is that it was shot with a flash using a small enough aperture and a low power on the flash so the light fell off before it reflected off the background. But why is the clip semi-transparent?

Hi lowkick, The background was a piece of black plexiglass . Aperture was F11, 1/60 sec. ISO 100, flash power was 128. The bright lighting on the left and the purple lighting on the right side was added using SmartPhoto Editor. I would assume your logic for the low power flash and the adding of the bright light may have something to do with the transparent look of the clip. The clip is actually black in colour.
