Saturday I stop at a second store and found a Pentax K 1000 with a Asahi 1:1.4 50mm lens on it. The lens is a M42 type lens. Took the lens off and on the inside of the camera is a M42 Pentax K/M. So one can use M42 lens on this camera. Everything works on the camera, that go for the light meter to. With the camera is a black leather case with "Honeywell Pentax" stamp on it.

You have an adapter in it.

Adapter does not operate the auto iris.

You’ll need a small hard tool to operate the little black spring latch for removal.

Regardless, nice find.

Ah yes, I have a couple K1000's Picked them up when my kids were going through photography class. Run a roll through it, send the film to "The Darkroom." They will give you some decent scans (choose the middle resolution scan) and post the ones you like the most. It's a nice camera. It's just that my largest lens collection is Canon FD series so I'm stuck with my Canon "A" series and T90 cameras.

That Tamron zoom is a nice overall lens. It includes a macro mode - nice lens. Have fun with yours.

The K1000 was the most popular camera in its day because it was also the least expensive camera in its day. Please note, I said "least expensive" not "cheapest". It was a solid camera that took great photos (if you had good glass). I still have mine (although I no longer use it after going digital).

This is the second K1000 I have. The first one I get about 40 years ago and it was second hand. It still works great after all those years.

I no longer have any of my film Pentax cameras, but many of those lenses, both M42 and bayonet working on my digital K3. That 50mm 1.4 is a beauty. I only have the 1.7 and a 2.0...both excellent! Have fun!!

There was a period where Honeywell imported Asahi Pentax cameras with their brand on it. Guys serving Vietnam were buying the Asahi branded cameras through the PX, and then when they returned to the states, Customs required all Asahi markings to be obliterated before being allowed to import the cameras, even for personal use.

I picked up a used K1000 SE 30 years or so ago, don't remember what I paid for it. It had the 50mm 2.0 on it. Recently I bought a 50mm 1.4 from a guy here for $60 including shipping. Tried it out on my K70 and it works perfectly. The K1000 still works also. Checked the match needle meter today, still working with the battery that has been in it for a few years.

As Photoman022 wrote, "The K1000 was the most popular camera in its day. . ." it was built solid and nearly indestructible.

I have two 1000s. Yes, they are well-built. Mine have been dropped off a horse, bounced down a rocky trail, dropped in sand and otherwise mistreated but still work perfectly fine. If my eyesight were better so I wouldn't have to depend on autofocus and if film weren't an expensive pain to get developed and if the EXIF info was preserved... well, I guess I do prefer the digital after all!

They were famous. And infamous.
Inexpensive, sturdy, easy, manual.
They were THE camera to get to start with.
"I can't remember all those numbers!" = Don't get a Nikon.
They were easy to learn, screw lenses were (still kinda) everywhere, and f:8 always got you there.

Wasn’t it Andes Adams who advised “...f/8 and be there.” as the best aperture setting

Nope as he didn't use f/8 often. f/8 is too wide an aperture and very limited depth of field for him. I think that was Weegee who said so.
