This is why we capture raw files and post-process them. With a raw file, you could have had recoverable detail in the snow and the shadows.
The challenges of a raw workflow are many. But for some subjects, raw can make a big difference. OTOH, JPEG capture is fine when you nail exposure, white balance, and dynamic range-related menu settings at the camera.
I always use raw but this was from my husbands cell phone a couple years ago. Thanks.
