Robertjerl is right on. I’m a vegetarian by proxy. I eat beef, beef eats grass. Good enough for me.

You are right. The same goes for non-alcoholic beers and wines - made to taste of beer or wine without the alcohol - why bother? Seems sad to me!

Real meat. That what I do. But I also do some veggie burgers ☺️. I have a friend who can't eat meat. So even though most of our smoking is meat, some thoughts went In to smoke for people who only eat vegetables.

Yes, vegetarians as well as people diagnosed with certain cholesterol related diseases tend to be the ones that exclusively use them. I have a close friend who is convinced he will live forever if he eats only plant based products. He's also terrified of having a stroke and someone convinced him the red meat is the prime contributor to those. I've tried the Impossible Whopper and could not tell it from the real thing, but generally, I love my beef, pork, and chicken meat.

If you review the nutrition panel on these products they are extremely close to identical with regular meat.

These products have grifted upon the phrase 'MEATLESS' just like 'GREEN' which does not actually mean environmentally safe or even safer, although to many they assume it is, and my favorite ... 'TECHNOLOGY' which it seems every successful TV ad must brag about the products technology, even if that technology is a century or more old.

The "Imposible" burger and the like is no healthier than meat. It's simply not meat, that's all. I can understand eating this stuff for ideological reasons. But the studies show it's not healthier, sometimes it's worse for you than meat. I'd rather eat the real thing a couple of times a week, then eat that artificial crap. And yes I taste a big difference. Take all the extras off a Whopper (tom, pickles, and the like) and it tastes like clay. I don't see any plain meatless burgers being offered, for a reason.

[quote=amfoto1]It's politically correct food!

There's a fanatical group out there that would like to drastically reduce the cows in the world because their farts and burps contribute to climate change (the cows' farts, that is... not the fanatics').

You took the words out of my mouth - and did a better job than I would have.

Plant based diet reflects on a lot less cholesterol & healthy weight loss. Thats what my fat doctor told me.

No plant based steak is going to taste like one of these.

Wow, that photo makes my mouth water! It's perfectly cooked just the way I like it and appears to be a very high quality cut of meat. A meal fit for a king to say the least!

It seems that most people don't know that this new stuff is really meat. It starts with cells from a live animal, which are immersed in a broth of vegetable matter, where they grow just as they would in the animal body. The main problem is that there is no fat, and that is where most of the flavor would be.

I'm going to have to research this thing further, if this is true than these products are not meatless at all. How does that qualify as "Plant Based?"

My daughter-in-law decided to try a vegan diet because it had helped her sister with a lot of health issues.

While I was visiting them, she would always offer to let me try her restaurant meals. I was amazed how good the food was! That was in February 2020. I tried being vegan and almost 9 months later, I'm 65 pounds lighter and feeling better than I have felt in many years. For the first time in 8 years, I can run! I do cheat now and again, mostly when I'm at someone's house for dinner and there are no vegan options. In fact, if I do eat meat or dairy, my stomach gets a bit upset.

I have dinner with my daughter and her family weekly and always bring a vegan dish or two. She texted me last night to say she is eating vegan 6 days a week.

One thing I made was burritos and my grandson had several saying they were the best he had ever had. The look on his face when I told him they were vegan was priceless. You would think I had told him he had just eaten a bowl of spiders.

I don't miss meat at all! And this coming from someone who could never get enough rare steak. For the most part vegan food is about the same or less expensive than any good quality meat dish. Since we are not going out to restaurants plant based is not a problem, but in our small community, I'm sure there would not be many vegan options in restaurants.

I would highly recommend a plant based diet.

"Plant-based meat” is an oxymoron, like “soy milk,” “almond milk,” etc.

Cows eat grass, grass is a plant, therefore isn't beef plant based? Works for me!

My daughter-in-law decided to try a vegan diet bec... (show quote)

Almost two pages now and this is the first one that really promotes and recommends a meatless diet. While I can possibly see some health advantages, what I'd really like to know is if you use these "Plant-Based" meat substitutes now being marketed or do you simply work your diet around using meat? Do vegans accept and use these products regularly? I'm primarily interested in who is actually buying and using these products as it appears to be a growing industry.
