I read that B & H Photo is an extremely bad place to purchase camera gear as they are very unscrupulous in their business ethics and activities.

With all of the "state of unrest" and "fake-news" in this nation right now, I don't know if I'm to believe this, or not. I've been using B & H for years buying my photo equipment, supplies, etc.

And, to me, between B & H vs Adorama, B & H is always easier and more cost effective to deal with.

So I ask: is there something wrong with B & H Photography or is this fake-news?

Wow! Not that I am aware!
I've been doing business with them, basically exclusively, for YEARS.
Even just for printer ink.
Never had ANY problem of any sort.
I have great trust in their operation, morals, and scruples - I'll continue to use them.
Where did you read it? Sounds like someone was upset with something.

Thank you, and everyone else here who jumped in to report repeated positive experiences. All tis is very gratifying and much appreciated.

According to the links provided by IDguy they have paid out 7.5 million dollars in discrimination lawsuits. Perhaps the employees are not receiving the same fair treatment as their customers.

We entered into a voluntary consent decree to resolve this because fighting with the government is a fool's errand and guaranteed to profit only lawyers. As soon as this was resolved we were immediately able to redirect our energies to our business and our customers.

Most of the negative comments you’ve read or which have been reported about treatment of our workers are either misrepresentations of the facts or outright untruths. We have been in business since 1973. A large portion of our growth and success is rooted in our understanding that the company-customer and company-employee relationships are the crux of that success. We would no more damage one than the other. We value and respect and cherish our employees.

Ironically, these were released relatively recently:

I read this on twitter... someone tweeted that B & H was... blah, blah, blah! I don't want to repeat it because I don't want to smear a company that's near and dear to most of us.

I trust the photog's on this blog and I wanted to see first-hand of the validity of their post.

Whoever it was probably had a bad experience and wanted to flame them... I don't know.

I thank you one-and-all!!!

Everyone here knows that everything on Twitter is true and can be accepted at face value without the need for additional collateral verification. I follow Abraham Lincoln there and he assured me this was so. If you can't trust old "Honest Abe." :-)

BTW, you can find me there at https://twitter.com/h_posner

If a few disgruntled employees made false discrimination claims for monetary gain that is very unfortunate. But honesty is a virtue that many lack. I bought my first and believe second SLR from B&H in the 80's and have bought several items since and don't intend to cross them out as one of my go to stores.

With all due respect, you have just repeated it, reflected in the title of this thread

First rate company. Never had any problems with them. I've purchased new and used photo equipment, as well as computer stuff.

I have used them for years. The most reliable gear company. Bought a Sony
video deck from them 6k years ago. Many cameras. Used to go to B&H.often.
A gentlemen fixed me up with audio gear for shooting etc spent a lot of time
with me and wanted to keep my costs down. Turns out he did me a favor
good mics etc but not too expensive.
A seller told me dont buy this camera the cheaper video camera is a good
or better. Don't waste our money.
They are the most reliable in the country. And give very good reviews
and advice. So folks might not be used to very religious jewish people who own
and run the store and mail the huge business. They are lively and fun to deal
with. After all it is NY. Good luck.

I live in NYC and routinely go to B&H. I have never had a problem with them. Even when I’m online, I never have issues. The staff is knowledgeable and are extremely helpful in person or on line. As for ADORAMA, I have gone there a few times. I never have an issue there either. But B&H will always get my vote for impeccable service.
