Will Samyang 14mm F2.8 MF work with FTZ

When we had the Z demos a couple of years ago I took the Samyang 14mm along and it did not work . Sent the Z into lockdown. But things have moved on and if it will work via its lens chip then its a big tick towards getting a Z.
I know I can get a $40 dumb mount but would prefer the auto exposure mode.
I could change the chip to one from "Nikon Gear" which I am told works with FTZ.

I just now tested my Rokinon 14mm f2.8 ED AS IF UMC on my Z6 in apeture priority with FTZ adapter. It works great so I would think the Samyang lens with chip would work also.

I have the Samyang 14mm and a friend has the Rokinon 14mm, which seems to be identical. But, when I put the Samyang on the FTZ and use it on my Z6 the aperture jumps around, when I tried my friends Rokinon it worked great. I think maybe my Samyang is an older generation chip. I did buy a cheap "dumb adapter" off of ebay and I can still use Aperture Priority or Manual mode OK, but it bothers me that I can't use the FTZ with that lens.

Do you both have the same firmware on your Z6 as your friend. It is possible to buy a updated chip from Ukrane but at present I dont have a Z camera. To get my lens to work would be a big plus .

Unfortunately you'll have to try it to see if your particular lens works or not. Some Samyang/Rokinon 14/2.8 lenses, like mine, worked fine from day one. Others still don't work. Oddly, I have a Rokinon 135/2 which also works fine, but a Rokinon 12/2.8 I have didn't work originally, but started working perfectly with a Z firmware version around 2.20 or 3.00. Currently, I have the latest Z firmware, 3.12, installed and my 12/2.8 is back to flickering (aperture and screen brightness) again. I don't think anyone has been able to figure out what is going on with the Samyang/Rokinon lenses on FTZ-adapted Z bodies.

As you say, you can purchase an inexpensive dumb adapter to hold you over (with the compromises) until it gets resolved. IIRC, mine cost me about $12.

You can get it to work if you change the chip for one from Andrey Kuryanov in the Ukrane ( no problem for me ) Its item 283766314302 on ebay but you do need a little skill to do the job.

Many thanks for your help

I have 'chipped' most of my manual lenses using the "Ukranian" chips. Andrei is great to work with. Is there another source of chips? You mention "Nikon Gear", but a search comes up blank.

Nikon gear is a forum of Scandinavian tech geeks ... nikonggear.net who are good at modifying lenses.
They are bad at making it clear which of the members is selling the chips. for how much and availability.
I think if you go to the top of the moderator tree and talk to the "bear of the north" you will get there.
Well I said, Geeks.
PS just had a load of replies on the NG site its " the less fierce bear of the north" Birna Rorslett you want.
