Thank you for the info. I wonder if the other upgrades outweigh the noise? More MP, higher number of FPS...it’s interesting to compare all 3 models.
The auto focus improvement alone is enough for the upgrade. If you understand post processing noise is not an issue.
I haven’t bit the bullet yet! Sony does have a $500 rebate promotion going on now tho. That brings the body to 3K. A $700 diff between that and the Riii. I actually was going to buy it yesterday and the salesman actually made me question my decision. He spoke of MP versus resolve and said that with certain lenses I really won’t be getting the full 61 MP so why spend the extra? I guess I need to clarify a few things first. If you Riv users have any other attributes to add to the list I’d appreciate it. GWilliams6 (sorry, not sure how to tag a person) mentioned a list of over 50 differences between the iii and iv. Can you please share? I did comparisons on BH and was amazed how many things stayed the same! Thanks so much!
Yes, I understand the eye tracking is better too!
I'll just throw in my 2 cents again. The lenses you posted already in your possession will pass with flying colors on the RIV. I'll only add that the RIII is primarily a camera built for landscape/portraits. The RIV does that...and more (AF speed). Not surprisingly...the IV is better than the III....the upcoming V will likely be better than the IV. Just the way it goes. The V is coming out relatively soon. Then you will see another discount on the IV. The III will drop as well I imagine...being 2 generations behind at that point.
You heard that the 5 is coming out? The guy I spoke to yesterday said nothing was on the horizon any time soon! Hmmmmmm
Late 2021...so about a year from now.
Point is...it just keeps moving onward and up.
If you buy the III now...you will be lagging behind the tech fairly soon.
Only you can decide if that is important to you, however.
Take your most used lenses and an SD card with you to the camera store and try out the a7Riv and the a7Riii. See which one you like. Or rent them. I shoot mostly landscapes and definitely prefer the Riv over the Riii. Like I mentioned in my previous post. I did upgrade my lenses from Minolta a-mount to Sony Zeiss and G lenses. I wish I could afford the GM lenses.
For me the upgrade was worth it, and I also got a Sony trade-in rebate at the time I bought mine (First USA shipment). I loved my A7RIII and made great shots with it, but the A7RIV is truly on a different level in image resolution, detail, better ergonomics, better autofocus, better EVF, and so much more. I wish I could revisit all my favorite A9, A7III and A7RIII shots and reshoot them with the A7RIV.
The A7RIV is not needed by everyone, but it is near perfect for me. No camera is perfect .
Cheers

Just know that the best new E-mount lenses from Sigma can match and do often exceed the optical performance of some GM lenses. Not all GM lenses are created equal, as some of the older ones like the 24-70mm f2.8 GM , 85mm f1.4GM, 70-200mm f2.8GM are no longer the best optically in their focal ranges. Other newer GM lens like the 24mm f1.4GM, 135mm f1.8GM , 16-35mm f2.8GM and of course the outrageously expensive 400mm f2.8GM and 600mm f4GM are the best in their focal range. Here the SAB (SonyAlphaBlog) sharpness test results (MTF standards) of 114 E-mount lenses, tested on the A7RIV.
Cheers.
