The Salt River, east of Phoenix. 500mm handheld.

That's about as close as I can get --but I don't mind. Three decades ago, Bald Eagles, particularly those in the desert, were grimly endangered. In Arizona and elsewhere, federal, state, and civilian conservation agencies determined and began to enforce seasonal boundaries that protect established Bald Eagle nesting sites from human disturbance. Great photo. Glad to read that the eagles are increasing in numbers. One of the very few programs that our government has gotten right. Mahalo for sharing.

Nice shot! We had a nesting pair here in southeastern VT (Brattleboro) but they snuck across the river into to NH, and the Granite Staters won't give 'em back.

It's wicked cool to watch them circling the river - there are better thermals over there (which is probably why they left - that and the outrageous tax structure).

Thanks, MSW:
Eagles leave their nest for a few reasons. Principally, regular harassment and disturbance. I guess taxes qualify...
