I only have 2 batteries for my Nikon. 1 Nikon & 1 Promaster. The Promaster came with a case. Do spare Nikon batteries come with cases. Anyway , I carry the sparte in the case in my camera bag or my pocket if I think there will be a need to switch while out taking pics.

I don't carry one. I use the biggie from Nikon in my D5, D850, and D500.

I keep the spare batteries in a ThinkTank spare battery holding case cost $18.00. I always use the first two counting left to right. I shoot using a grip which holds two batteries at one time. It also protects the contacts on the batteries, also helps to keep them clean.

I keep one or two in my pocket. I also code the charged batteries with a velcro wrap that way I know for sure what battery is charged and which one is exhausted. Running the wrap lengthwise also protects the contacts. You can probably find them at any electronics store for keeping wires sorted.

I have used a Lowepro CS 10 for MANY YEARS on my belt which holds at lease 2 spare EN-EL15 Nikon batteries with safety plastic end caps, and at least 4 extra SD memory cards with their singular original plastic cases. Originally designed for a tiny point and shoot.. B&H has them in stock for around $8.99 each ! It's a steal IMHO!! I've never had to open a camera bag to access batteries or memory cards!!

Batteries for my Canon 5DM3 came with plastic caps that depending on position may show blue - I use it to mark charged batteries.

Spares for Olympus don't have caps, so I cover the contacts with gaffer tape. I re-use the same pieces of tape many times.

I have from Think Tank a four battery holder that attaches to your belt along with a camera strap that has on each side a storage pocket that I use for carrying extra batteries.

I carry them in my pockets but ALWAYS with the plastic battery cover over the contact area. The same thing for when they are stored at home, in a camera bag or in a drawer.

All you need to see is what happens when one battery explodes. The damage is quite expensive. One guy in our camera club made a video of one exploding. That was all I needed to see.

For my Canon batteries, I use the caps. I mark with a silver sharpie on the side of the battery that I arrange the cap to show on a fully charged one. When a battery is exhausted, the cap from the fresh battery goes on it with the non-silver spot showing through the cap window.
