I too enjoyed the show very much. Highly recommend watching it!! The acting was very good and the stress of the competition was well played. I only wish that more time would have been spent on the final match highlighting the strategy of each player. I haven't played chess in years but my interest in getting back to the game was certainly piqued. Hopefully there will be a second season but I read the other day where nothing is planned.

Thanks for the recommendation. I just finished "House of Cards" last night and was looking for my next series. There have been several I have liked, especially "Turn", "Hell on Wheels", "Longmeyer", and "Pinky Blinders". . "House of Cards" was a bit disturbing in that I can't help but feel the story is a somewhat accurate representation of the corruption in Washington. Anyone willing to share other series they have enjoyed?
You might want to add "The Man in the High Castle", "Ozark", "The Crown", "Virgin River", "Victoria", "Homeland", and "This is Us" to your list. These will keep you entertained for awhile!!

Totally agree with the previous postings. Wife and I are on episode 6 and are thoroughly enjoying it. And it’s been years since I’ve played. Super story. Like most, highly recommended.

Has anyone seen this new drama series on Netflix? It's about a female orphan who is a chess prodigy and works her way into the almost all male world of elite chess players. The writing and visuals are outstanding, and the lead actress is great. Netflix released all 7 episodes of Season 1 last month. I played a little chess many years ago, and I don't know much except the basic moves, but I've never seen the game of chess portrayed in such an exciting way. I binge watched all 7 episodes, and I highly recommend it. Here is the Rotten Tomatoes review:

YES! Very much enjoyed it John, but truthfully I carelessly selected it thinking it was a 'regular' movie. Quickly found out it was a short series, but couldn't stop watching it 'till I viewed all 7 episodes! I used to play chess quite often many years ago and shared some of the anxiety and tension involved in a serious game. Very good presentation.
God Bless,

Our daughter recommended it to us and we finished watching last night. Can only second what has already been written. Really enjoyed it and agree that the ending scene was extremely well done.

Did you ever see a tournament where one person played so many other players at the same time? That part was very intriguing.

We watched the first 2 episodes and will certainly watch the rest. It is interesting that for some of the games, the director had the camera angle very low so the viewer could not see the entire position on the board. The result however was dramatic: In her last game with the school custodian, she 'appears' to sacrifice a bishop (?) so that she could queen a pawn and force a mate. If so, that's "masterful chess".

===============
Excellent series!! 5 star; and, MORE if possible. . .More impressive is that NONE of the chess-playing actors ever played chess before they played in the series!!!
Foot note: I was a "SEMI-prodigy" and, experienced much of what is portrayed. . Whizzing through increasingly more experienced and higher-ranking players UNTIL (in my early teens) I became fed-up with the INCREASING PRESSURE. Because, at age 14, I played a retired Grand-Master in an exhibition match; and, when he offered me a draw. . .I immediately grabbed his hand! And, just as immediately, I saw that I had him beat in just three more moves! It was the PRESSURE. . and, more. . .The fun of playing had gone! It had become Chess for Blood! After that, I quit the chess club (I was the only person under the age of 30) And, I had yet to have the pleasure of "just being a kid!" And, it was years before I was able to "correct the damage" done to the way I looked at things. For example, I was 11 years (at nine different colleges and universities; and, half a dozen different majors) before I got a college degree [an AA in Plumbing & Welding at a junior college; and, a BA in History, if you're interested. Another 4 "fun" years resulted in a MA; and, an AbD (All But Dissertation<smile>) and, a Teaching Credential (grades 7-12)] As for playing chess, I "found" a couple guys who were quite good chess players; and, who liked the same beer as I. . And, best of all, enjoyed playing chess the same way I did: Never more than three games at a sitting; disliked tournaments; and had differing opinions on virtually everything; but, were open to a rousing INTELLIGENT discussion! And, those friendships have provided wonderful memories since their passing. . .And, on the subject of "Queen's Gambit". . .It was a great ramble down Memory Lane. . .I can only recommend to watch it!
I've played many games of chess (haven't won very many of them though), have met several chess masters of both sexes and even one master who played Bobby Fisher and won in 1956. They met again in 1957 and tied. That master was Arthur Bisguier who autographed my copy of his book in which he describes and diagramed those games.
The opportunity to meet Art was provided by the Castle Chess Camp originated primarily through the efforts of a friend here in my town.
I have watched most of the episodes of "The Queen's Gambit" and find it quite interesting. Agreeably the actors and especially the lead actress, have portrayed the characters very well. I'd be interested to see a sequel season if it was done with the same care as this season.
Funny, but two friends recommended that to me, and I watched the first episode last night. I'll watch one or two more tonight.

It’s been fun to have such a great diversion. I’ve recommended it to a wide audience and I think most viewers are doing the same.
