I am VERY new to digital photography and post processing. I have Lightroom and Photoshop. What is Bridge?

Thanks

Lightroom takes over most of the duties of bridge, so I don't really use it. But it is free to launch in your creative cloud app. It is a powerful asset manager I guess is the right word. You can open any photo in any application, easily move files around, and much more I've never delved into.

I am a one trick pony. 100% Photoshop. Photoshop has Bridge for organizing photos and Adobe Camera Raw for raw editing. Oh, and of course, Photoshop proper for doing anything and everything you can think of.

I use Lightroom as a data base except for one function. If I want to change White Balance I do it in LR because LR makes it's own changes, without asking me, when I export it to PS.

Paul is right about one thing. I use PS because I'm comfortable with PS. I could learn to use LR and accomplish almost everything I can in PS but I go back to what an old Master Sargent told me when I was a young trooper in 1963: "Son, if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

It’s a good thing not everyone thinks that way or we’d still be driving Model T’s and burning coal.

The latest version of Photoshop is hardly a Model T.

I may have to try using Bridge!! I don’t know if I could give up Lightroom though (EXCEPT for those times when my collections disappear!). You can do collections in Bridge? Can they sync with Lightroom Mobile?

According to Adobe techs, if you can do it in Lightroom, you can do it better in Bridge. I gave up on Lightroom a decade ago because it kept losing folders and files, and it took too long to resync everything.

His statement “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it”. It’s a common platitude that sounds good, but. If people really thought that way we would have no advancements.

You seem to be pushing for a confrontation for some reason. Good luck but it's not coming from me

That may be true, but I've seen too many instances where someone tried to fix something that wasn't broke and ended up breaking it.

PS almost 100% of the time after organizing and basic adjustments in LR.
PS: layers = control
Once you figure out layers (and masks, selections, brush, etc.) layers are great for precision, non-destructive editing, and any future adjustments.

I understand that there are many "preferences" about various editing software programs and many preferences of workflow within the various programs themselves.
My question is Specifically aimed at Adobe LR and PS users. Primarily at those who use both LR and PS

For those who use both programs can you tell me in a broad brush sorta way what you do with each. I'm thinking that it makes sense to uses LR primarily for collection and organization and PS for serious editing? Granted that LR can handle good deal of basic editing.

Thanks
I understand that there are many "preferences... (show quote)

I use LR to manage photo projects, basic editing, and move to PS when I have major corrections such as removing objects, unwanted sunspots. I also use LR to sync my photo projects with my cell phone so I can upload phone pictures to my LR collections and to show off pictures of my granddaughters. I am an amateur but feel very professional and in control using LR and PS.

I use bridge to import my pictures to my storage drives. I also decide which of the many photos need to be imported. When I forget to wipe the sd card, I can only import the new photos. Bridge makes it is easier to add key words and save to the different folders. I manage my photos by year, month, event shot. I import into a Lightroom collections only the photos I want to use for the project. I use PS to do more intense editing.
