I take many photos from the tour bus as we travel and often I don't remember the names of some of the places we've driven through. Can anyone suggest a GPS unit that connects to my Nikon D7500 so that I can input the coordinates to Google Maps? Nikon has discontinued the GPS 1A device. Thanks.

If you have an iPhone you can get a GPS Stamp with Geotag app.

Here's how to do it with Adobe Lightroom's Map module

Thanks but I'm looking for a unit to mount on my camera or connect to it which will record the location in the EXIF data with each image. Easy with an iPhone which named glaciers I photographed with it from the air.

The Nikon WMU app will suck the GPS data from your celphone when you use it to take a photo. Otherwise, I use an external GPS and sync through Nikon Transfer. There are several devices out there which connect directly to the camera through the Nikon-provided USB cable https://www.tethertools.com
https://havecamerawilltravel.com/photographer/gps-trackers-geotagging-photos/ gives a list of available devices. I have not checked the latter for currency.

Thanks very much George. There's one on Amazon called Micnova GPS -N with mixed reviews. Only $42 so I may just give it a go.

I use the Geotag app on my iPhone in conjunction with my Nikon D7500. It requires one extra step to tag all of the photos (I shoot only RAW) before import to Lightroom. This only takes a few minutes.

I have this gps and it works great. I have it attached to my strap so the hot shoe is open.

Mark, you might be able to find a used GPS 1A on ebay. That's the source I used for mine.

I had a GPS dongle for the D5000 several years ago, note several years ago. It was painfully slow to determine where I was. I replaced the D5000 with a D5300 which has built in GPS. Also painfully slow. Even outdoors in the wide open. I've always wondered why my car's GPS can determine where I am almost instantly but the camera, and the dongle, seem to take forever.

iPhoto will tell you where you took the picture given the GPS data. But it might be the name of some obscure hamlet that helps little if it all. Vienna, Paris, sure, works fine. But some odd sounding name instead of Melk or Krems. So it goes.

I had a D5300. I tested the gps a few times but then stopped because it sucked down the battery. Plus I never did anything with the data.

I can use Snapbridge on my Z6 and Z50...but suspect it will drag down both camera and phone battery. Maybe I’ll give it a try.
