Mostly from my butterfly collection. When I was a kid, we had to do a science project where we killed and pinned hapless creatures onto cardboard. Horrible experience, actually. Much prefer doing it with a camera.
Hi Joe,
I have seen those "Stick Bugs"(pg7) too.....here in southern California....

Bugs, insects, spiders, and all those things aren't my "thing", but you certainly do all make them look good. Don't know if these are bugs, insects or what, but they were "shot" this morning with the exception of #1 and #4 - from last week.
Inching up an old wire gate - whatever this thing is.
A something on a zinnia
Shot a fly in my flower!
Wasps or hornets a buzzin' on the old steeple.

Insects are kinda fun if you can get them in focus, would love to have a macro lense but then I would have to get to close I don't think they're that much fun! Here are a few of my favorites, let me see some of yours now!
Nice shots, Georgiann. I love your damselfly! You've gotten us off to a good start. I thought I'd post a few tonight while I'm still up...
EEEK what's that last thing? Love the mantis!
I'm not really sure what he is ... some sort of grasshopper I think or maybe a leafbug? That was the first praying mantis I had ever seen...I was very excited to get to shoot him.

p4- Thanks Nan! I thought it did a better job of drawing attention to it!

ok so a bee is a bug and a bug is an insect or is a insect not a bug, then what is a bug?
Oh, and to add to the confusion. A spider is not an insect...he is in a class all his own along with tick & the like. They are arachnids (sp?) and have 8 legs instead of 6 and a 2 part segmented body instead of 3 parts (as insects) do. Maybe we should have a day devoted to spiders!!! Yuck Oh, and btw, not trying to be a smarty pants...just adding to what you were saying. (I thought I knew that stuff but I looked it up to make sure before I posted it lol.)

Insects/Bugs/Etc are not something I get to see much of, so mine are "chance encounters" !
First one is evidence that there WAS something there!!
If I was a bug I'd like hanging in that purple flower, great bugs!
Thanks! All chance encounters! I was just looking for flowers, etc and didn't even notice some of the bugs/insects until I got them onto my computer!!

don't do bugs they give me the creeps, just one live mantis that was on the wall by the front door, the rest are from Santa Ana Botanical gardens, and the good ole standby Bellagio
Your bugs are the best, catgirl. I know they won't sting or bite me

LOL!!! So many definitions for these little "critters"! To me, if it is a little living critter and it "bugs" me, then it is a BUG as far as I am concerned! LOL!!

we call the first one a Daddy longlegs pg 1
Pg. 3: Thank you Catgirl, I did name it as a Daddy Longlegs, but Markar said it is a Crain Fly so I changed it. Maybe it is called by both names.
Well, actually it was Bmac who identified the Crain Fly. Don't want to take credit for his knowledge.
Just a couple from my files
Bee on apple blossom
Stranger on our wall
# 1 is very pretty, Scouse. He looks black and white.
