I have a canon 7d and I need a more all round lens I can use for animal portraits.
I have been looking at the 24-105 but I've been told these are more for a full frame camera and I would get more out of a 18-135 lens.
The 105 comes in an L lens but the 135 does not, but I am assured that it is very good quality glass.
Please does anyone have the 18-135 and what do they think of it please.
I'm told this lens is also faster than the 105
Thanks in advance

I shoot a Nikon D300s. It is DX also. But 2 years ago I got the 28-300 for a trip. It stays on the camera 80% of the time. It is a great walk around zoom. The other companies are making it too.

I shoot 18-135 and 18-200 and they both provide great quality images. I generally shoot in the mid apertures on most every lens so they are well with in the "sweet spot"

I use the 70-200 and 24-70( both L) with my 7d. Like them both very much. For shooting animals I would opt for the 70-200.

I use a tamron 18-270 as my walking around lens. It's is very versatile.

I have the 18-135, a kit lens. Depending on the zoom setting, there can be considerable distortion and chromatic aberration.

Looking to replace it, camera pros I spoke with recommend the 24-70 over the 24-105 for its greater clarity and less distortion. However, the new 24-70 II is quite expensive.

A long story short, I suggest not getting the 18-135 given the other choices.

I would go for the 24-105 L, great lens and if you go FF in the future you have a great lens that makes full use of the focal length.

The 24-70 would not sit well? I've never heard that. I use the 24-70 on my 7d and love the combo. I think others here would agree. That would make a good topic for this forum.

My all around is the 70-200 f2.8L ii for my 7D. I am hoping to have the new 24-70 f2.8L ii in two weeks, according to my supplier. Gary
