Switching Out of S Mode

I got my Acer laptop yesterday, and it was easy switching out of S Mode. In case you're not familiar with that, it's a setting in Win10 that limits you to Microsoft Store apps only, "To keep you safe." (And to make sure all you software money goes to Microsoft.) I'm surprised they didn't call it M Mode. There are several steps to follow, but there were no problems, and I was able to install Chrome and other non-MS apps.

Computers must be delivered in S Mode because there is no way to switch regular Windows to S.

Windows 10. If you switch out of S Mode, there is no going back to it.

I do not have 10, my wife does on her laptop, which I use only if absolutely necessary (ie. add a printer).
What does it not let you do?

S Mode limits you to the Microsoft Store - no "foreign" apps. The idea is to keep you safe by keeping nasty software off your computer. I live dangerously. I use Gmail!

Never heard of it. How do we know if we are in "S mode?" What are those easy steps to get out of it?

Wife's computer has Chrome on it (came with Chrome), she added Zoom.
She has no idea what S Mode is.
Guessing it came "out of S Mode" then...???

I’m guessing it is specific to the Microsoft Browser. Since I never use their browsers, I’ve never encountered it.

That's how the computer is sold. I got out of it right away, so I don't know if there was any indication.

Actually, that's how the computer is delivered. You must use MS apps. I don't know how far that goes. Lightroom? Gmail?

S Mode is strictly a Microsoft thing. You must download any app you want from their store and no where else.

Like I said, she put Zoom on it and it came with Chrome.
Wonder if she got Zoom from the Microsoft store.
Who put Chrome on it?
She used Google search also...

I guess not all systems come in "S" mode.
