They were so big and beautiful, carol.
A fritallary landed near one of the monarchs on the lantana and looked so small in comparison. Thank you for your comment.

"I don't know where they came from"

I was teaching a photography class at Breckenridge Park in Richardson, Texas when the park ranger told my class this story: The groundskeeper was mowing the weeds when an elderly gentleman stood in front of the machine making him stop. "Those are Asclepias tuberosa, a species of milkweed that you are destroying. The Monarch butterflies are born here and feed here before their flight to Mexico." That huge area is no longer mowed
