You are correct. And they are. But I'm so accustomed to my camera, that I just don't use the phone that much. If I can't get these pix on, I'll use the phone more.

The cellphone will be far superior for displaying photos than the camera.

I have a question for you. Why do you keep pictures on your card? I and every one else I know downloads the picture to a drive on or off your computer and put the card back in the camera and formats to be clean.
PS We also double back it up.

I believe you have to 1) put the images back in the directory structure that Canon uses and 2) use the name format of the image as Canon names them.

So on the root of the memory card is DCIM. Under that folder is your daily files (or however you set your camera up) as NNN-MMDD. Under the daily folder are the photos of that day with the prefix IMG_NNNN

DCIM\NNN_MMDD\IMG_NNNN (where N is an arbitrary number?) MMDD is month day

I just did an experiment by taking a few shots, moving the daily folders to my computer, formatting the card back in the camera, copying the daily folders back to the card at the root and couldn't see them on the camera. Popped the card back in the card reader and put the daily files under a new directory I created called DCIM - back in the camera and could see all the pictures.

Next experiment was renaming the picture IMG_5418 to IMG_5418-hello and could not see that photo on the camera. Back to the computer and remove "-hello" from the image name and back to camera and now the picture is seen. Renamed 5814 to 6000 and the picture could be seen on the camera.

Last experiment was folder renaming from 135_1014 (today's date) to 700_1014 - this worked in the camera. Renamed 700 to abc and it didn't work in camera. Renamed abc to 135 (the original name) and it worked again in camera. I am not reiterating all the steps between camera and card reader hooked to computer as all the renaming is of course done on the computer.

Simple solution is abide by the manufacturer's naming convention and it should work.

đź‘Ťđź‘Ť Absolutely. Just recreate the exact file/path/folder structure and naming convention that the camera uses.

Because he wants his top 80 to show people. The concept is just fine but that's what a cell phone is best at. I addition, it's lot easier to view then a review screen on a camera and some klutz doesn't drop it.

I guess I just never think of my camera as a place to show my pictures, I do if we have several of us shooting together, but that might my last shot or so. When I show them it when I have them in print for 13X19 or 24X36 or 30X40 on canvas, but we all do our thing and that is photography.

Around 80 jpgs were on the Sundisk memory card of my Canon Powershot. For unknown reason, pix didn't show on camera---but on my PC, all of them showed up (whew!) Canon tech suggested I copy pix from memory card to separate directory on PC, then format the memory card (inside camera), which I did. The result? I can copy the pix back to camera, but the camera still doesn't read pictures.(When I took a picture, it could be seen). Canon said that once the jpg has been on the PC, it can't be seen any more! Thus three questions: a) Is there any tweaking I can do with the Canon to resolve this? b) Are any software programs around so I can see pix on my camera? c) Last resort. Are there any camera brands which don't have this propriety tenacity, so I can copy pix from PC to camera? (f.y.il, yes, I locked and opened Sundisk. PC is Windows 7.) Thanks and apologies for long message.

Looking at photos on other people’s cameras has got to be one of the least user friendly ways of sharing. You have to hand your camera to someone who may not know how to use it and the screen is small. People will give your pictures a token glance at best. Find another way to share and forget the camera.

Join the 21st Century! Put them onto a cloud drive (iCloud, Dropbox or what ever) and share them via your phone. Sharing them on a camera screen makes no sense. The screen is small, lacks resolution, is not portable etc. Messing around with algorithmic solutions may be a nice hobby, but your phone screen will better display better on your phone (or tablet.) Audrey Hepburn deserves more than a small screen with poor resolution!

An interesting idea - put some keepers in your camera for showing. Personally, I have a very large number on a website (Smugmug) and show from my phone.

That might be a little too 22nd Century .... I wouldn't want to be 100% dependent on a 21st Century mobile service signal to display images in the cloud, when I have several GBs available on the internal or memory card in my phone to hold these images for these display situations.

I'd never lug my camera around to show people, or show people while I'm shooting. I use the gallery in my phone for showing, but rarely.
If I want to share with people not right next to me, I use my website or Facebook. That way they can look, or not, at their leisure.

Why would you want to copy files back to the camera? That makes no sense to me.

I keep copies on my desk top, a back up drive and one in the cloud. And if it is special I print it. And if I want something immediately on my phone, I keep it resident. I guess my point was why drag around a camera? It would be like dragging around a television and dvd player to watch a movie when there is better tech out there.

Anyhoo, I follow your comments on this forum and have learned a lot.
