Just looked at Nikons new mirrorless and they sure are priced better! Thoughts on Nikons new mirrorless versus Canons?

"Sadly the model numbers imply same old, same old, with some minor tweaks and refinements. Nikon has finally gotten behind Canon and Sony and instead of envisioning new model numbers each time, simply "marking" next year's models." ~ Ken Rockwell, October 1, 2020

Rockwell notes (at least as of Oct 1) that the specs are unknown. The complete post is found by scrolling down to the Oct 1 date stamp at:

The new specs are out as of today or last night. I just wondered if their low light capabilities are better and the new eye detection. Thanks for your replies, I always learn something from you!

I watched an interview this morning with a Nikon Rep and they say the low light performance is better among many other things. Interesting to me that the price of the Z 7II is about 300 less than its predecessor at launch. Nikon was my first love and though I’ve tried to leave, I keep coming back. The files from the Z7 are outstanding to work with. I think Nikon is addressing issues with the current Z6,7 and giving what people have asked for. I hope the dual processors (though the same processor from two years ago) will be enough to boost the AF. One nice feature is that you no longer have to have ALL focus points selected to use the EYE or FACE AF. It will allow you to use a smaller AF area. I wish this would be in a firmware update to the Z6,7. I can’t speak to the Canon R5 or R6, but looking at specs, they seem pretty similar. I’m loving the Nikon Z mount and am amazed at how they have rounded out the lens lineup in two years time.

The EOS R5 will change how we think about mirrorless, how we think about photography, how we think about life.

I have previously posted that IMHO this is a make or break release for Nikon. I’ll have to see some independent reviews to be sure, but I believe Nikon is back in the fight. The big difference between the Zs and Z IIs is a 2nd Expeed 6 processor and bigger buffers. That should improve AF capability and speed, shutter speed, and video capability making them competitive with Sony and Canon. The price points are surprisingly good and the new pricing ripples through the product line. My only disappointment is the screen is only tilt, can’t face forward. I plan on buying a Z7 II as soon as I see some independent reviews, will not jump to mirror less, but transition by keeping my D850 and D500 until I get some extensive experience with the Z II.

The specs are out now but you post old information from before the specs were known?

It sure as hell changed mine! I think there is a setting on the R5 that will drive my car to a GPS destination. :)

Sony mirrorless has been changing how we think about mirrorless, how we think about photography, how we think about life MUSH LONGER THAN CANON OR NIKON. Sorry, the truth hurts sometimes.
Sony is clearly the leader in mirrorless, everyone for now is chasing them.

If you need a camera to make you think about life. Doesn't the pandemic come to light. If we do not take precautions. I would not think about photography. Wake up dude.

What was wrong with just taking pictures. Why do we need the newest and the most expensive. People care more about image content than they do about the equipment.
