Although good, they don't last forever. Time to replace the keyboard?, assuming they are available?

So far as the screws are concerned, try getting a tool (or tools) at ifixit. Lots of handy things there!

Before you spend money and time on solutions, you may want to give Apple support a call. My experience is that they are efficient at diagnosing and solving almost anything Apple.

If Jerry actually did that, it would reduce his posts on UHH. No way is he going that route!

That's exactly what happened to my wife's Pro. I googled, found an article that suggested the battery being the cause, replaced the battery, and back to normal.

About half of my keys and the entire trackpad works, so I'd rather not take a chance on a battery, even if it is eight years old. I realize the battery below is made in China, but you'd think they could have put some effort into naming the company.

I would get advice from the horse's mouth, Apple.

From what I've been hearing, I'll avoid Apple like the plague. Their repair prices are unnecessarily high, and they prefer to sell rather than repair. This laptop is eight years old, and it's not essential. I can probably use a separate keyboard with it, if I have to. There's a reason that Apple is the first trillion dollar company.

Thanks for the recommendation. When I opened it up to replace the HDD, I didn't have trouble with the screws. Apple designed their own screws later than 2012. From the video I saw on YouTube, replacing the keyboard is too complicated and too fiddly.
