Perfect isn't always Perfect and Fair isn't always Fair.
Valuable is always in debate. Is it best player, best hitter, do pitchers count as they have the Cy Young, does it have to be a pennant winning team for the individual to be considered, is it ok that the argument has never really been firmly defined and that varying criterion seem to be more important from year to year?
All fair questions. Ernie Banks was All-World. Thank goodness he was, at times, given the full recognition he deserved.
All these issues make for good conversation and thought each year. All sides make good points. The answer: I dunno đ¤ˇââď¸

That wasnât about defending Ruth, although many fans hated Maria because the deemed it to be âRUTHâS RECORD,â so much as it was defending the record.
What is done over 162 games cannot be compared accurately time what was done over 154 games.
HADDIX OTOH met the 9 inning criteria plus 3 more.
I think there are other âseasonâ records that were not assigned asterisks after the season lengthened.
A lot of fans...particularly Yankee fans...didnât want Maris to break Ruthâs record but would have been fine if Mantle did it. And Iâll still maintain that Frick favored Ruth.đ
Well, not related to baseball but how do you think Pluto feels??? It's not Faaiirr!!
Come on, it was the Pirates. At least Doctor Strange Glove wasn't the goat for a change.
I remember when he was pitching it. I think it was on KDKA radio. Didn't Hank Aaron hit the homerun that won it for the braves?
If you feel bad for Haddix, just think about Armando Galarraga!!
I have to agree with the Commissioner. Haddix pitched 12 innings of perfect baseball, but it wasn't a perfect game. Like Harvey said, though, he and everybody else knows what he did. Remember, though, in the 13th inning an error allowed a base runner to reach base. After that, a batter hit what appeared to be a home run, but the commissioner ruled it to be a double. However, the runner that had been on first had been sacrificed to second and scored. Haddix lost his perfect game on the error and the no-hitter on the double. The Braves won 1-0. No perfect game. No no-hitter. You just can't pitch a perfect game when you give up a hit and an error.
...and Gallarago has never been close to one, since...

There were, as I recall, other records that fell when the 162 game schedule came into being. I believe one was the stolen base record. No asterisk there. Other record similarly were not subject to question, as was the HR record. It is somewhat obvious that Frick had a bias and only when it came to Ruth. Aaron was a great HR and BA hitter. He had the longer season (later in career) to hit more HR. No one said diddly about that, nor should they have. But, they should not have hated and screwed Maris, either.
Was it Lou Brock who took the stolen base record from Ty Cobb? Not too sure about that one. I guess I am in the 4th turn re:memory or maybe in the 156th game!

Lou Brock and Maury Wills and Rickey Henderson all broke Cobbâs record in 154 games or less.

That I agree.
MVP has been one more than once by a player on a lay place team, which is completely illogical.
I remember first reading about Haddixâs game in an article that said, âHarvey Haddix pitched the greatest game in baseball history- and lost.â
Think about DiMaggio who had his 56 game hitting streak broken in Cleveland and had another starting with the next game for I think around 26 more games.
Pluto was reinstated as a Planet from what I have been told.

Pluto was redefined as a âdwarf planetâ in 2006 and that change has not been revoked. It has not been reinstated.
