I have a male pileated visit my suet feeder multiple times a day. He has been doing this for months now.

I'm pretty sure he nests nearby but, I haven't found his home yet as my backwoods is pretty dense.

Fantastic image !!!!
if you cropped the top and bottom a little no one would know the "tree" was a feeder.

That is such a great idea. I must try this, myself. We have several of these guys each fall and I always listen for their Jack-Hammering on our Oak trees, nearby. They are my Alarm Clock...unofficially.

I'm not yet sure I have one or two coming to my feeder. One photo I have shows a good section of red under the beak, while another seems to show less.

But, to your point. My bird announces himself every time he comes by. I can hear him KAK'n just before he comes out of the woods. Same with my red-bellied woodpecker.

Mine used to fly off when I opened the door but now, I can walk around the yard - slowly - and he will continue feeding. Sometimes drive right past the feeder while he is on it and he won't move.
