Hope to get there someday. Great shots and story.
Beautiful photos. I have been there several times and each time I am filled with the sadness of so many men dying on that now sacred ground.
Be careful walking around. There are rattlesnakes in the area.

Very nice David. The wife and i went there about three years ago. Like all battlefields you let your imagination go to work and try to picture what it must have been like on that fateful day.

MTnative, thanks for your nice comment. I didn't get a photo of that Native American memorial, I'm afraid.
NMGal, so nice to see you! Thanks.
Gallopingphotog, I did include the horses gravestone in this set.
Uh, I believe the wire braves are in it!
I've often intended to go there, but it's never on my route. Thanks for posting.
Very nice series of a famous historical battle.
Just got up (love retirement!) and catching up on responses.
Hi, jaymatt! Nice to see you found this. Thanks for the thumb.
DougS, I appreciate your comment.
Runninglate, I agree. Thanks for the 3 thumbs.
Yeah, blacks2, I thought I’d do some things in this country. Thanks for looking.
DaleK, I think this is the second of my posts you’ve commented on. Thanks very much.
Dennis, nice to see you again. Thanks. I was careful.
Stash, nice to see you again. Thanks for the nice comment.
IDguy, I guess I didn’t make the connection. Thanks for pointing that out!
AzPicLady, it is an interesting place. The history is there. You’re welcome.
Earnest, I’m pleased you liked it—thanks.
crafter, I appreciate the nice comment. Thanks for viewing.
Hereford, I’m glad you liked it. Historic it was.
I loved your images, you are one of the best with your tools, Thank You. A side note all the native people called the area greasy grass. Should have kept the name.

Excellent set. There's also an interesting Custer Museum in his hometown of Monroe, MI (near Detroit). His widow spent the rest of her life trying to promote his image.
Rick, thank you very much. Flattery will get you everywhere.
wthompson, Thanks. I did not know about the Custer Museum near Detroit. Has it been there long? (I left there in 1960.)

Don't know how long it's been there, but it has one floor of Custer and one floor of WWII. Quite interesting!

The Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument, Montana, USA
Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument preserves the site of the June 25 and 26, 1876, Battle of the Little Bighorn, near Crow Agency, Montana, in the United States. It also serves as a memorial to those who fought in the battle: George Armstrong Custer's 7th Cavalry and a combined Lakota-Northern Cheyenne and Arapaho force. Custer National Cemetery, on the battlefield, is part of the national monument.
Lieutenant Charles F. Roe and the 2nd Cavalry built the granite memorial in July 1881 that stands today on the top of Last Stand Hill. They also reinterred soldiers' remains near the new memorial, but left stakes in the ground to mark where they had fallen. In 1890 these stakes were replaced with marble markers. Markers honoring the Indians who fought at Little Big Horn, including Crazy Horse, have been added to those of the U.S. troops. The warriors' red speckled granite memorial markers dot the ravines and hillsides just as do the white marble markers representing where soldiers fell.
