In 2021 my wife and I are planning to take a 2-3 week trip to Europe. I’d like to focus on the trip, and not lug my overweight bag with my Nikon D850, lenses, flash, etc. Can anyone suggest a single camera, that’s easy to carry with good image quality? I’d prefer a camera with a viewfinder and one lens, preferably zoom. I’ve had pocket Canon and Nikon cameras, but not in the last 10 years or so. Not sure what the current state of that art is. Please give me your thoughts. Thank you!

i use a sony rx100 m7 which has a 24 -200 zoom and it is a fixed (not changeable) lens. It fits in a shirt pocket has a 1 inch sensor which produces a 20 meg image shoots 20 frames/sec raw or jpg and all the flexibility of a dslr. If that is 2 small. Sony just came out with a full frame 24 meg interchangeable lenses COMPACT sony a7C

I get amazing photos with the rx100 m7 with fine detail and it is an absolute pleasure to carry around fits in a shirt pocket.

I have a small fuji camera with 28 times optical zoom, it is not a new one but I am sure that if you check out fuji cameras you will find one that is suitable, the quality of the pics is quite good.

I'd suggest a Sony RX10 IV 24-600. If that's too big and you can live with a 24-70 zoom, then get the Sony RX100 V.

Where can you find that info? On Olympus website doing a comparison of the M5 mkIII and M10mkIV this is what Olympus says about the 2 cameras.

Weathersealing Yes, IPX1 Rating No

The Yes, IPX1 is for the M5 and the No is for the M10, specifically the mkIV. It's difficult to imagine Olympus making such a big mistake on their site when it negatively impacts their product but it's possible of course.

Sorry, Leo B. I stand corrected. The E-M10 mkIV does not have the IPX1 rating as the other OM-D cameras have. Hopefully in the near future they will weatherseal the E-M10 up to the IPX1 rating.

While the RX100 VA is 24-70, the DSC-RX100 VII is 24-200.

I’m learning a whole bunch from all the responses, by so many helpful people, to my request. As to it being slower: How is it slower?

F stop. Unless you need it for low light,
the longer zoom is worth the trade off. I carry the RX10 as well so the faster f-stop is better for me than the longer zoom.

When I went to Ireland in 2016, I left the DSLR home and bought the Sony a6000 & 3 lenses. Used the 18-135 lens the most. Best decision I ever made!!! Maybe the newer Sony a6400 would be a good choice with 16-80 lens and maybe a 35/1.8 prime for low light (i.e.: pubs!)

FWIW: I sold the a6000 and regretted it. Bought the 6400, sold it and bought a used a6000!!! Happy now.

I have been using a Panasonic FZ100. One lens with a zoom 25 to 600 optical for the past 3 years.
Very convenient without the fuss of having to change lenses, also great for bird photography.
I believe the FZ100 has a newer model out now but do not know the specs.
Hope this helps. Regards Lance Whittington, Gold Coast, Australia

I take slower to mean the wide open f stop is smaller (or a larger #).
