Elk have been reintroduced in Missouri, much to the farmers dismay, fences mean nothing to the Elk, they tear them up with ease and the farmers have very little recourse, only to fix the fence at their expense. I have mixed emotions while they are magnificent animals I don't think there is enough open land here to support a herd, only time will tell. Have never seen an Elk in the wild, so far I don't believe there are any in my area (wild that is).
They have also reintroduced Black bear, so far they have been seen as close as 25 miles from suburbs of St.Louis, my daughter saw one cross the road less than a mile from my home approx. 70 miles from The burbs.

Thanks Frank. I can see how they can destroy property. 800 to 1000 pounds. There's bear there too but we didn't see any
