Luminar 4
Just yesterday I started using this product, and although I am getting it to work I must use it as a stand-alone as it will not work as a plug-in. I've sent an email to them and listened to the answers here trying to resolve that issue.
At this point, I can get a photo in there and work on it but I am having a lot of problems exporting it back to the proper PS folder. I have looked on you tube to get help and will continue to do so.
Does anyone know how to do this? Sometimes when practicing I eventually find the photo in a different folder, different day etc. What am I doing wrong? Here is one of the problems I face: let's say I am working on file 22. When saving it I will change it to i.e. 22a so I know what was luminard. I can never change it. I always stays at 22.
I do not use PS as a file system, but use LR. But regarding Luminar 4.3; "export "normally is to return file to source folder, to avoid duplicate issues I add "underscore" and a number or letter depending on subject and use(don't ask) alternatively you could "export" to a desktop folder and then cull your pictures. With 16gis ddr4 and solid state drives export is speedy even for 50 -60 megabyte files. Tech support has been within 24 hours usually, concise and helpful. No unresolved issues. Luminar 4.3 is a fast, and powerful photo editor. enjoy.
Doesn't work for me either. Doesn't even open in Lightroom. I have given up and just use it as a stand-alone product.
I use it as a plug-in on a Mac with Lightroom and it works seamlessly--easy in and out.
What you're asking begs the question of why aren't you managing your processed photos in the Luminar Library module. I suggest that you create a folder using "Finder" if you're using a Mac and add that folder to the Luminar Library module. When you finish processing a photo export to that folder. You can see it there by switching to that folder.
Question. What is the advantage in using Luminar instead of Photoshop, which easily transitions back and forth with Lightroom?
Your presumption is that everybody has Photoshop. I don't. Aside from that using Luminar makes it simple to manage all your photos through a single app. If you're happy with it as an editing tool why bother exporting your processed photo to another app. If you like the way Luminar manages the Library you can drop your you subscription to Photoshop.

No presumption at all. No need for snarkeyness. Just a simple question out of curiousness that you misinterpreted
I apologize if you thought my comment was snarky. The bottom line for me is that I'm a big believer is one stop shopping.
That was a good answer, and a good reason, Thank you

I prefer to use lightroomCC for plug in and if you still feel that your image needs further editing, then you can transfer your image to photoshop from Lightroom and that should work. Good luck
Luminar has some nice features, but you cannot use it as an “edit in” plug in, I have to use the “export to Luminar” function which will have the same effect as a plug in, returning the edited image to LR
I use Lightroom and Luminar 4 as a plugin. When I go to luminar 4 and do further editing. When finished I click done and go back to Lr. The edited file saved by Luminar 4 is a tif file which has all changes made from edit. Don't know it that helps or not but I am able to find the file and print or what ever.

Attached is a screen shot of Luminar 4 when I click export on a Win 10 computer. Note it shows the folder where the photo will be save, the format of the saved file and the file name. Click the browse button to change the saved file destination and in the other sections change the file type and name. You can view the attached png file with any png viewer.
it is amazing to me when some people go off on tangents. The question was why it wasn't working for him with PS. I'm going to make an assumption he is on a PC since L4 seems to have more problems with Pcs than Macs. The answer is I think you should be using Lightroom for your cataloging. Much more stable with lots more features than L4. You should (emphasis on SHOULD) be able to use L4 as a plugin from Lightroom. As to the person suggesting you use the l4 catalog. You really have no option there. Every time you work on an image (even as a plugin) L4 saves that to your l4 catalog. You can't turn that off.
Now the Luminar rant - support is awful. There is a group on Facebook which actually gives you a better chance of getting an answer. Skylum (the owner of L4) has already announced L AI with more AI features but if history repeats itself they will not fix the issues with L4, just as they didn’t fix the issues with L3 and I doubt they will be fixed in LAI. They continue to sell sizzle (AI) without fixing the basics. I wish they would just go back to selling plugins because they will never be a replacement for a full-feature product like Lightroom or On1 Raw 2020. That ship has sailed
