I am one of the older photographers with limited digital experience but still keen ( 70plus ) and willing to listen to any advice. I have a Nikon D3500 dslr and just bought a Panasonic TZ100 compact which I bought because I find lugging heavy kit around as well as my dog cumbersome I know the compact has its limitations but at least I have a camera with me in dog walks when I see a shot of wildlife.
I am interested in macro photography but would welcome any advice on what lens I woiul need and relative cost.
Welcome to the Hog, enjoy.

Re macro: on your d3500, Nikon’s 40mm yields the equivalent of 60mm on a full frame camera. It would likely be the least costly route. I’ve been pleased with mine, but have used it mainly for copying family photos with a copy stand. N-Photo, that excellent UK magazine, occasionally has articles on the topic.
A 60mm Nikon macro would be equivalent to a 90mm on your camera, allowing more space between the tip of the lens and your subject. The space helps avoid casting an unwanted shadow on the subject and/or scaring away a photogenic bug.
As for cost, it goes up from 40, 60, 105, to 200mm Nikon lenses. While I purchased the first 3 new over the years, the latter was used, saving 1/3 on cost. But I live in a town of 3000 in the mountains of western North Carolina and shop via websites in the continental U.S. and so have no advice on prices in your location.
Less steady now in my early 70s, I most often follow the advice given 50 years ago: use a tripod and shutter release cable. It certainly makes a difference for me!
Hope you enjoy macro as much as I do!

Good to have another join the forum. There are several of us here in that 70+ group and still learning more about photography. Ask and answer questions and post photos. More importantly enjoy photographing what you like.
Welcome aboard from another septuagenarian.
Aren’t the majority of us Hoggers in or near that age bracket?
