One of the comments suggested that COVID-19 and the economic disaster has consequences in all un-necessary spending; new DSLRs are not necessary.
We'll have to see how this turns out but honestly I don't hold a lot of faith from a rumor that comes from anonymous sources. There is no doubt Covid & unemployment has taken a toll but strength from large companies that are diversified tend to ride the wave better than more specialized smaller companies.
The video could be good for "click-baiting". Just another reason to take it as false truth.
If they did have to shut down, it would be because for such a long time they refused to accept that mirrorless and EVF was the huge advantage to photographers that it is.
Haydon ... "Just another reason to take it as false truth."
At times False Truth becomes a self-fulfilling proficiency. eg: I am not buying a Nikon because they are going to shut their doors and what if... or ... They haven't invested much in improvement because they are going broke... on and on with such expanded rumors.
Perhaps Nikon and Kodak can merge and start making film cameras again! You know, back to the good ol' days when men were men and cameras used film

Just looked at the For Sale section of today's UHH; 50% of the items were "NIKON" the rest were accessories, not camera brand items. The handwriting is on the bathroom wall when I saw that I flushed with concern that I had some old Nikon stuff to get rid of ASAP. [yes, wordplay intended]

I suggest you dig a little deeper in regards to the author of the video. I unfollowed him on YT for many reasons several years ago. He enjoys controversy.

Shameless self-promoter attempting to drive clicks to his site. The internet is full of these false prophets!
People who stir the pot like this should be forced to lick the spoon . . . just sayin'

Yes, a forced future. All it takes is one statement, people will wonder, the statement propagates, more people wonder,... Eventually it becomes reality. And when it's over: "Well what do you know, the guy was right....".
Had nothing been said, there would have been a different outcome.
So be careful what you say. It can happen to anything.

That is true! However, assuming if Nikon is folding what will happen to used and NOS Nikon's prices? If the prices go up I would be selling and if they go down I would be buying.

What do you think you'd be buying? mirrorless or clunk click every trip
Be careful what conclusions you reach and from where you reach them. To read this site and watch the videos frequented by many of its members, one would think that the sky is falling. But if one is immersed in an environment where purchase decisions really matter because they are at a volume that truly makes a difference and because the nature of the environment requires frequent repeat purchases, the conclusions to be drawn are much different.
I have close ties to a number of folks in law enforcement and have a very fulfilling retirement position in education. Both of these turn out to be quite consistent and quite high volume high volume purchasers of photographic equipment. Neither of them are inclined toward "the latest technology." The first reason is that it is too expensive. The second is that it offers no benefit in return for the risk of adoption. The third is that it in practice, it does not offer the durability and reliability that the application requires when used in the environment and by the people required to use it. There is no benefit to these groups in the esoteric perceived improvement in performance, and there is a significant disadvantage in the larger files created by the typical "new" camera and the terribly expensive memory cards required to use them.
So no, I do not believe there is any rational basis to assume that Nikon has to go out of business. They are the preferred law enforcement camera. Most educators who teach photography seem to prefer to buy Nikon equipment for their classroom, even if their personal equipment is by a different maker (often Canon or Sony or Leica). That they may choose to exit is a different issue. of course. If they do have an "undoing," it will likely be because they dropped the lower and mid-range models, not because of anything that happens at the top of their lines.
So I suggest that we stop being such old worrywarts and redirect our energy elsewhere. If someone exits the market, we can talk about it then.

I don’t know if it will or if it won’t. What I do know is that no matter what, my Df and lenses will keep working.
